Well I pulled my board to do a cap kit on my 20ez and this is what I found. I really don't know much about arcades but I don't think this wire is supposed to be here, can someone please advise. Do you think that I should remove it or does this mean that a trace might be broken on the board? It appears someone has already attempted a cap kit before, you can see the nasty soldering they did, but for some reason only replaced 9 caps. I was experiencing a very dim monitor and couldn't get the colors right do you think that a full cap replacement will fix this? Also has anyone ordered a cap kit from twisted quarter on ebay, just wondering if it comes with every cap or will I need to source a few others. Thanks in advance.

I personally have not ordered a cap kit from Twisted Quarter, so cannot say.

But I have ordered kits from; and they have been good and worked.

Zanen Electronics

Or next time I might look at the cap maps from Bob's website and put together a list from the monitor manuals. Which can be found here;

And then order a bulk project from Mouser Electronics
I have been buying parts from them lately and have been happy with their quality and service.

Good to know. I just removed a sanyo chassis yesterday that had this mod and I was going to ask the same question.

do not remove it it is a factory mod. i have seen many like that.

Well I did the cap kit and checked my b+ voltage everything is fine. The only thing is that I cannot get the colors as crisp and bright as they should be. The green on my menu is a forrest (dark) green instead of the bright almost neon green that I see in picutures on the internet. I have twisted and adjusted every pot to every imaginable combinations and nothing has worked. Is this something that can be fixed or does it mean that my monitor is exhausted?

thanks
Nick

You might try to reflow the neckboard. I had color issues and it helped mine.

In that very first photo I can see a LOT of bad and broken solder. As well as the caps, did you go over the chassis and correct this?

Yes I replaced all the caps even the ones that someone else had done. Also I did reflow all the solder joints on the neck board but nothing helped. The monitor had gotten so dim that you could barely see it and also it was shaky but now that part is fixed. It will get very bright now but the colors are horrible when I turn it up so I have to keep it dim. All the colors seem present its just that the red is orange and everything seems weak.

You might put the tube on a rejuvinator and check the guns. If they are weak (poisoned) the picture wont be sharp and colorful. If you dont have one im sure there is somebody that is nearby that does have one.

I mean the mainboard too, not just the neckboard. I can see a lot of crappy solder. Like around R484.

But I agree with the rejuvenator; get the tube tested. What's your location? Perhaps someone lives close to you with one.

I didn't reflow anything on the main board except all the caps, I thought it looked pretty good but I am not an expert by any means. I live in Rowlett which is right outside of Dallas. It sucks because I really love this machine and want to fully restore it (which I have already bought most of the parts for) but I just have a bad feeling about this monitor. Seems like the colors are all there but they are just not the right shade to get anything acceptable. Do you think I should pull it back out and reflow everything?

Hey neighbor! I am in Rowlett too and also a Nintendo Freak!

I have an extra 20ez tube you can try out and see if it is your tube or not. Just let me know.
I am still working on rebuilding that chassis (broken PCB).

Culcuhain I live at Dalrock and 66 behind the Albertsons. Thanks for the offer of your monitor but I think I figured mine out last night, your welcome to my board if you need a reference while fixing yours. I took off the main board again and found a black box that had come loose from the solder so I fixed it. Now I have all my colors but... when I try to adjust the green bias it pulls all the green to one side. It is 100 times better and I can live with it. Because of this I can't really get yellow but atleast I have reds and oranges now. Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions.

Here's what happens when I turn the green bias all the way up, any ideas? The last pic is with all adjustments turned off (bias everything), it doesn't look bad I just don't think it's right.

Colourbleed. Turn down the green. Or, adjust the contrast.

That last photo looks fine to me. But, I'm not in front of it, either.
