I had 5 out of 6 Defender boards I listed on EBay bought by ChuckFrom Hell :)eek: yes, I called him out without all the usual forum hystronics). The auction is quite specific about payment:

Payment:
* Payment is to made by PayPal within 72 hours of the close of the auction, unless alternate arrangements are made.
* Longer than 72 hours and I will re-list the item and mark you as a no-pay.
* Local pickup is possible. If paying cash at pickup, I will waive the shipping charges.

The auction ended 2/17. The 72 hours was up yesterday (2/20) at 5pm. Not a word out of him. I sent a gentle reminder yesterday and a stronger reminder just now with a second invoice. When I invoiced him the first time I reduced all the shipping charges in to one USPS flat fee shipping box ($11 vs $50 something individually).

If anybody knows who this guy is and especially if he is a KLOVer, let him know that the boards are either going back into the auction pool or I will second chance offer them soon and he will be SOL. He needs to contact me.

Sorry for the rant, but I am p*ssed. I use the proceeds from the auctions to fund the purchases I need to finish restores and I've had to let a couple of things go because the money wasn't in my PayPal account. Like a lot of you, I fund my hobby by buying busted or untested (usually synonomous) items and fixing/testing them and reselling them. There is not a lot of margin but I don't have a lot of overhead either, just a $70 a month storage unit. So when I get stiffed, I get p*ssed. All it would take is a quick email or just pay the d*mn invoice.

If he does either, I will post the results in this thread. Otherwise, Seller Beware!

Unless you do immediate payment required on buy it know purchases don't the buyer have more than three days to make the payment?

your 72 hour rule violates ebay policy for buyers...

Not unless additional terms are specified in the auction. These terms were spelled out quite clearly. If the buyer contacts me, I can usually work out some arrangement (hence the "unless alternate arrangements are made" clause).

When was the last time you went to an auction and told the cashier "hey, I'll get back to you sometime about paying for my items"? Auctions are cash and carry. If you are not going to follow that, a simple email to me asking for more time is all it takes.

Technically you are right, Ebay has changed their policy to 4 days instead of 3 (96 hours rather then 72) since I started listing things. I have updated my standard "fine print" template.

It still does not excuse this buyer from not making any sort of contact or responding to the emails and invoices.

It's 'not nice' to not respond, but it's not a requirement really. Just as long as he pays in the timeframe required by the rules he's technically done nothing wrong right?

I dunno, i wouldn't get too much heartburn over it just yet.

Yea, there's really no sense in making up personal rules in your auction because they won't hold up if you actually try and enforce them.

So many people do this and your right it won't hold up. Just because you put your own terms in an auction doesn't mean you can enforce them. If you want that then best to list on CL. And I can't believe Ebay makes you pay within four days, I thought it was seven.

isnt it possible that he is not available on a weekend, damn slamming someone because they havent paid within 24 hours of your deadline is a little harsh IMO. Im often on the road on the weekends and handle things sunday night. Not sticking up for the buyer, i have no clue about him, but i do think that your jumping the gun a little quick on being pissed.

Nobody is going to defend deadbeat buyers around here, just maybe you should have cut him a little more slack, espically considering he's still within ebay's guidelines. Give it some time, hopefully you'll get your money and if you don't, atleast your not out of the product which is more than alot of people getting ripped off far worse can say.

I agree and I usually am a lot more forgiving, if they will just drop me an email. All of the deals that I have ever had go south start with the other guy not taking 2 seconds to drop an email off.

As an update. He responded to my first email to him (sent about 30 seconds after the end of the last auction) which offered to combine shipping at 10:30PM last night (Sunday). Nothing about paying for the cards or a response to the 2 invoices which have been sent with updated shipping.

Maybe I am overreacting, but sometimes you just get a feeling that a deal is going to be trouble.

Yes, you are overreacting.

Epilog (hopefully): I heard from him late Sunday night, he responded to the initial email where I told him that I would invoice him with combined shipping. His response "that's cool". Total. End of communication. Nothing about the 2 invoices. Nothing about when he was going to pay. Zip. No "sorry I spent the last three days drunk in a snowbank", none of the usual "my internet is down", nothing.

Tuesday, I sent him a third invoice and another email asking him to contact me to request more time or to pay the invoice or I would have to second chance the boards. Nothing. No payment, no email, no telegraph, no carrier pigeon, no message in a bottle, NOTHING. Since he won't communicate, I filed a nopay with the Resolution Center about 11:30 PM.

Wednesday evening around 5 pm I received an email that there was a payment from chuckfromhell (1 week after the auction ended). So once I got home from the ER (my wife went in with cardiac issues earlier in the day), I printed a packing slip and a shipping label. Taped the box with his boards and dropped them off at the post office. That was about 1:20 am this morning (Thursday). I am hoping that is the last of it.

I agree with you YellowDog, simple communication can fix everything, even if its a short email, I travel a lot, have kids, so I dont live and breathe this stuff, but if I buy somthing and I see it on email, I will at least let the seller know when I can pay, because half the time I send those on my phone. Common courtesy is what our country lacks...
