Can the shifter, steering wheel and pedal be wired to an I-PAC?

I guess it's obvious what my dumbass idea is. I'm sure I'm not the first to think this, but I need to know if those controls can be used.

Thanks

I was going to do the same... I even bought a pre-wired dual pedal, 4-way shifter and ipac/apac setup I've never used. Supposed to be plug and play. Perhaps one day I'll actually get it going. Maybe that's what I should use the 1000 Mile Rally cab I have for... Hmmm...

You still haven't done anything with that?
Man, hurry up and do something with it before I forget how I had it set up and am unable to answer questions :)

You don't happen to remember what you sold it to me for do ya? I might be in the market to off it...

Yes you can. My Pole Position cab (gutted right now) was a MAME driver before I got it....

I've gotta figure out this "mouse hack". Can't seem to find any really good info on how to actually do it.

Figured it out. Went out and found a couple of cheap "mouse's". Unfortunately, none of them can be mounted where the PP encoder wheel will meet with the "pickups". Gotta figure out another way. I wish I could use the PP optics, I found out that I have the "first version" the one with just the resistor.

Anyone know if the PP optic wires can be soldered to the mouse pcb somehow?? I need to know what those 4 wire's are.

Just a followup...I'm still assed out. I have the computer and the whole setup ready to go. Still need a solution to the mouse pickups contacting the encoder wheel.

I could modify the PP wheel itself, but I don't want to do that. This is suppose to be reversible so one day when I sell this POS, it will still be "original". I guess thats the main problem, trying to keep the steering wheel "original".

uh... I'm all for that kind of stuff, but man a pole position is a dime a dozen. It's absolutely the most plentiful cabinet you can get. Ms. Pac? NAH, All those still work. EVERY pole position is dead, or close to it, so if you have to modify something to make it work, go for it. There is nooooo shortage of pole position cabinets with no boards, which is what yours will be if you ever decide to sell it.

I have everything. Just haven't had the boards tested. When I got it, it was a rat infested hellhole. Some of the wires in the monitor were chewed and I didn't want to turn it on. After I read the hell people have gone through with PP. I just decided to do a mame PP so I could spend more time playing it than working on it.

The mame setup is pretty sweet. Just having issues mounting the mouse guts to the wheel itself.

If you get this working let me know, I have a gutted PPII cab that I was considering getting rid of it, but a pole position mame seems like a good idea. Easily able to play and reliable. - Barry

I've a sweet layout I can send you for the Atomic fe. The guy who runs the show I think lives in France. It wasn't on the Atomics site so I emailed him, and he sent it to me with instructions. Pretty nice guy. I will be using PP1 and 2 on this and the layout is perfect.

You'll also want to DL Shifter Mame. If you don't want to get into more expense and work.

Look here for inspiration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYjl54EpTnw

I also emailed this guy but, he has since taken it apart.

I've got ideas on how to improve on his setup.

When I did mine I followed a diagram I found online showing where to solder the wires on the PP encoder to run to the opti-wiz.
I can't seem to find the diagram at the moment but it was over at BYOAC somewhere..

That would sweet. I've looked and looked for a way to use the PP optics. I wish I could solder that to where the mouse optics pickup are. Hell I'd be done with with whole thing.

Here we go, found this post which led me here.

If I ever find my files I have a version of PP compiled to support the hi-low shifter, but I know there are other copies out there either way.
Good luck!

I think I've seen that before. Thought about trying it, but I don't have an opti-pac.

I might order one if I can't find suitable mouse guts. Thanks for the link.

Almost any older mouse will work, especially since you are just going to de-solder/clip off one of the optical sensors and wire in the lines from the PP encoder.
Otherwise you would need an opti-pac or opti-wiz

Groovy Game Gear just got some business :) This will be much easier for me.

As for the current issue (which will be fixed when I get the Whiz) I just can't figure out how to get the mouse pcb right where the encoder wheel makes contact. I've tried a couple of old "mouses" and none seem to be able to fit or go right where I need them. Got any pics of yours??

Thanks again, you have been a big help. I'm glad I bumped this thread last night.

Now, I need to go bump my Hard Drivin' monitor issue thread. :)
