Another Pacman Restoration - In Progress.

Wow awesome pics. This same project will be my first retoration I am going to attempt. Can you link to the other couple of threads you used to reference as well for tackling this project?

Great work! It certainly seems daunting. How long in between coats did you wait before peeling the stencils?
My timing actuall varied a bit, with mixed results. If I waited several days in between, I had good results and clean lines. If I pulled when the 2nd coat was still tacky, I'd occasionally have some stretching, but results were okay. If I pulled after 1 day, as I did with the black, I'd have a bit of flaking of the paint, which tended to stick to the stencil more than the cabinet and required some touch up. Having it to do over again I'd focus more on preparing the undercoats a bit, maybe even carefully sanding between the stencil, to help with better adhesion to the cab, and would probably recoat as fast as possible and pull the stencils while the paint was still very tacky.

That Preval thing looks interesting. Did you have to thin the paint for it? What type of primer did you use during stenciling?
The Preval thing is awesome. I did thin the paint just a bit. I would say about 15%. It took some practice, but you could get it to spray extremely fine mists, almost like an airbrush. The cans are small, but by the end I could do both sides of the cab (the blue for example) with just one can. And if you completely disassemble and clean all parts, they're perfect to re-use.

Here is Talon2000's thread, with a link to his album with tons of pictures: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=89459

And here is Spyridon's: The full post over at byoac is huge, and has tons of detail: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=115348

Both of these guys used automotive paints and a good HVLP set-up, with amazing results.

Finally finished this 100% this morning. Sprayed four thin coats of Krylon Crystal Clear gloss and reassembled everything. It feels good to be DONE.

Absolutely beautiful. I have one of these still in the chamber. I need to pull the trigger soon.

Awesome... I mean AWESOME job, I can only hope mine turns out this nice. I love the trackball control panel overlay. I remember in a thread a while back that Phet said he had a file on his computer for a Pacman trackball cpo as well. Between you 2 is there any chance that one of you could hook me up with the art so I could get mamemarquees to make me one when I am ready to do it? I know it came from an unnamed source but I could throw a few bucks the person's way if thats what it takes.

Check with TOG. I sent the file to him a while ago, I don't know why he'd have deleted it. I am seriously sad that I ever mentioned I had that file.

Why's that? Just get bombarded from people wanting it?

Pretty much. I am on the forums at work all day. That file is on my home computer. After work and the gym, I like to go home, eat dinner and hang with my kids. I don't like having to get on my computer, log into my email, try to find and attach that file and then send it out a few random times a month. It's also not my file and I am not it's official 'keeper'. I appreciated the file when I got it, and have paid it forward several times, but I grow weary. Maybe I'm just getting lazy.

Ahhh I understand. I know the feeling as I am on here all day during work as well, and after a 10 hour day every day the last thing I wanna do is touch the laptop at home. And I do understand the growing weary of just handing the file out to anybody, which is why I will gladly offer to compensate the original creator of the work if they want me to do so. I will check with TOG and see if he still has it, hopefully so. Sorry not trying to thread hijack, just don't see too many posts about that CPO. Lets get back to drooling over that beautiful machine.

Thanks for the comments guys.

The CPO is awesome. I really appreciate the hard work of the creator and the folks who pointed me in the right direction.

Well done!!!!!
Is that the correct Midway logo plate for Pac-man?
Spyridon I think your Midway coin door plate is the correct one. It's the one on the flyer, but that also shows black T-Molding so who knows. I thought about making the change to your style plate, but decided I'd stick with the one I had and leave the change to 'someday'.
