The beginning of August started with a Tempest cabaret... isn't he cute...

And now at the end of August... things got a little larger...

Both games came from Tim I. and both were great deals in my book. This second Tempest shows it's age on the outside, especially on the right side where it looks like someone tried to use it as a hockey puck on asphalt.

The good points are the A/R II works, he replaced most of the parts on the power brick, the control panel is complete, the wiring harness is non-hacked, and the monitor works.

The bad points are that the PCB doesn't work all the way and the spinner knob isn't original(and the cabinet is pretty rough as seen in the pics).

This PCB is putting up a bit of a stink but the logic works and it passes self-test. The problem is the vectors are completely nuts. Spot killer is not on but the vectors just look like random shooting starts with most of the activity on the outer fringe. In self-test there is just a rectangular box around the edges of the monitor with *nothing* in the middle. Pretty strange.

But that's for another thread in the tech. section for later in the week.

Thanks again Tim!!! :beerchug:

Hey! What the heck am I going to babble on to Tim about someday purchasing now?? :D

Good luck with the project Jeff I know its in good hands!

Those are really cool Jeff; I have an upright but I love that mini! Full size monitor in the cabaret, correct?

Yep, the mini has a 19" WG6100 in it. I really like it like that too... the cabinet being small brings you even closer to the screen and then to have it full-sized is great. When I was fixing the game I had it in our family room and in the dark there was something magical about the way it looked... I know it sounds dumb but it just had a glow about it with the screen being so large and then the marquee being under it... very cool looking imho.

U gonna keep both?

And yep. I'm really getting a taste for vectors right now so the more the merrier. They just have such an awesome look to them. Our game room is split into two so I have the minis in one area and the full-sized games in another. Having two Tempest works well for the setup. (or it will once I have this one running)

Sorry... just too good a deal to pass up and like I said above, I'm *really* liking the vectors lately. :D

I think the first time around the hobby 10-15 years ago I was intimidated by them... this time I'm just taking my time and going through the schematics and actually thinking about what I'm trying to accomplish. Before I'd just rush in a then get frustrated that the one or two things I did didn't work. That and this time around I have a little bit of disposable cash so finding replacement parts isn't as big a PIA as before.

It's actually fun this time! :)

Low HV on the monitor is one possibility for that description. Read the 6100 FAQ about "Blooming".

Nice looking mini! I'm very jealous. :D

Thanks for the linky. :beerchug: I'm pretty sure it's PCB relaated because the scope is doing the same thing at the test points but I'm going to kit the 6100 anyways so I'll change the Zenor diode while I'm at it.

Jeff you're getting all the good stuff as of late! Totally jealous!

On a little hot streak now... :) I'm really hoping for another color XY though. I had a multi-Tempest and a multi-Sega last time around so something like Space Duel or Gravitar or <gulp>Major Havok</gulp> would be way cool.

If the scope is doing it, then it wouldn't be the HV as you said... Hey, I just picked up Space Duel #2 this weekend. :cool2:

Play some Omega Race on that UR's spinner! Nice snag for that UR, I like the mini too with the 19" monitior in it. Cool vectorness you have!

yr cabaret looks pretty clean and nice. tempest is one game i would definitely own in either UR, mini, or cocktail form. all 3 look great and have their unique style.
