The results look pretty similar to some others, such as FrizzleFried, but that's good company!

My Marble Madness restoration...

DSC_1047.jpg

Game was completely working when I got it... For this project, I pretty much did not electrical stuff.

1) Took off all laminate/vinyl
2) Repaired cabinet with bondo
3) Painted cabinet (primer, multiple coats of satin black)
4) Cleaned up coin door, did hammered black with satin black on top
5) Cleared all the holes on the speaker grate, painted satin black
6) Installed new System 1 side art
7) Installed new steel leg leveler supports, installed new levelers
8) Took old art off control panel, primed, satin black, installed new CPO
9) Went with the dark blue t-molding.
10) Stuff I forgot
11) Took this picture (above!)
Remaining: Need coin door locks! I thought I had some, but I guess I do not.

Thanks for looking! And thanks to all that answered my various questions during the process. More gory details on my web site, if you are interested.

how come you never revinyled it?

i got a blasteroids that originaly had no artwork when i got it,repro cant be bought but,i am working on its cosmetics.its is a pretty complicated cab but,i am willing to take the plunge and remove the vinyl and revinyl it.i have the vinyl oredere with tog,its should arrive within a week or so,i am in uk.

how did you remove the old vinyl, heat gun?
:)

Saleem, I didn't go with the vinyl simply because I picked my battles and didn't want to mess with yet another task I had not done before (cabinet bondo, side art install, control panel overlay...). Also, I felt the different would be hardly noticeable... and it turned out that way.

I was able to simply pull off the vinyl/laminate with a putty knife. I then sanded the wood.

OzTron, thanks! I hear you regarding the t-molding... but it's perhaps the easiest part of the resto, so I thought I'd try it and can always change it. I have the old black t-molding which I can hold up to the cabinet and see if new black t-molding would be more appropriate. The dark blue has been growing on me, however.

I was thinking of the blue for my Peter Packrat but I just couldn't do it lol

I like the light blue, looks okay, that's what I'll use on the upright Discs of Tron.

I want a Marble Madness now.......!

Thanks Tornadoboy.

Having some System 1 kits would be cool... but I only have MM.

Sweet! I would love to get a Marble Madness... if nothing else, it would be a great simultaneous two player game to play with the old lady. I also support your blue t-molding choice -- I'm digging the look, and like you said, you can always change it back pretty easily. Enjoy!

Jeez-louize! That game looks sharp. I never thought of putting different color molding on a System 1 before, I like it. Wish I has one.

Good work!

Thank guys. The two player is fun... I've had some fun games against my son.

Gotta give credit to FrizzleFried for the colored t-molding idea.

Ditto on the blue molding, I think it looks great with the side art!

I agree :)

I put the blue on mine and it looks really good with the side art, but looks kind of odd with Indiana Jones in there (which is very orange). It was a tough chouce since all the control panels are different. I like the blue though.

Nice restoration! You need some locks, LOL (inside joke).
