Hello, I just acquired a Fortune Coin Co. 5 cent Draw Poker Machine(1982, I believe). Everything is working, but the "Draw" buttons and lights. Any idea what the problem is? Thanks much!

No. The buttons don't even do anything either.

We would have to see a picture of the machine. You would get lucky if it is a harness issue.

Here's a picture of itIMG_0580.jpeg. I just replaced all bulbs, only the deal/draw button lights up after a coin is inserted

I think that's how it's supposed to operate...?

Pressing the Draw button does nothing after it lights up? If so, probably a bad switch. Try momentarily shorting the wires going to that button after it lights up to see if that makes it draw a card.

And/or bring it to the Chandler repair party this Saturday and we can all kinda dive in to figure it out?

The only button that lights up is the Draw/Deal button, all others, nothing. Thanks, I might take you up on that, Arcadenut!

re deal draw light
that is normal on start of a game, (ie coins are put in, )
that is only button to light up, it is waiting to be pressed, (but if non working you have the result stated)
then after its pressed, and 5 cards are dealt out, then the other lights will light up,
(but since no buttons are working, this is not happening)
you likely have connections or wiring issues somewhere, (or multiple places)
there are multiple failure points in this harness
the big ones are the 14? pin ribbon that goes into a buffer pcb, (the ribbon can be bad, the pins can break bend, the wire inside can break, or get disconnected from ribbon to pin connector, ect ( was a bad and unreliable design even when new)
then the harness where it bends around /near the coin door open close hinge area is a spot many times wires can break inside or get pinch, or have internal intermittent connection, then theres all the harness at or near the buttons, lots of slip on connectors on buttons, ect
also research this at newlifegames.com

Thank you for the response, the ribbon looks good, but I can see how there could be a problem inside it. I'll check out that site. Thanks!

theres also certain areas. sections and or points on this harness that are in series, or matrix, (not sure of the word there)
that if a ground is slipped off or wire bad somewhere, that one pin is off, one wire bad, one switch bad, of the first button or something, then the whole chain /series of buttons wont work at all.

Thanks, I'm going to take a good look at the ribbon today. I hope it's possible to get a replacement if needed! Also, it looks like all connections to buttons are soldered and good.

I pulled the hold buttons out and tried jumping the wires after I put in coins. It worked, but I don't know where to go from here

check each button separate for ability to go on /off via a meter
That's my next step. I pulled out bulbs and cleaned everything, put back together. While I was testing holding, after winning a couple of hands, hit cash out, and now the hopper won't quit spewing out nickels!

That's a video poker machine I'd definitely want to play! :D

check the heavy duty coin count switch on hopper for broken or out of adj

check the heavy duty coin count switch on hopper for broken or out of adj
As soon as I hit the "on" switch, the switch on top of the hopper automatically engages and the nickels start coming

is the switch broken open or closed?
beyond that, this is another connection issue somewhere like the hopper quick on/off connector, or its harness, or connections to motherboard, ect
also these games have alot of issues like this, and why most have been trashed or parted..
