I'd love to write a 3D Battlestar Galactica game based on the Star Wars cabinet. That's still a long ways off. In the meantime, I thought I'd share a 2D framework I've been playing with and a basic game.

Introducing SPACE GAME (working title :) ):

I know there will be too many vectors but I don't have to worry about that until I put it on the WG6100.

asteroids 3

thats cool. just joking about the ad3 title. i like the sound effects.

It's written in C++ using the Allegro 5 library for line drawing and OpenGL for smoother lines on a monitor.

Unfortunately, all of the sounds are "borrowed" except for the shields (not used in the video) so I'll have to change them.

Hilarious sound effects. They aren't freeware eh? You could probably make something similar. But you might try asking for permission to use them.

Looks very cool

if not already inspired by geometry wars, look into it... would be great with those (robotron style) controls

Or are you planning to use the star wars yoke?

The game play is inspired by Geometry Wars, sound effects by Maelstrom, and controls by Asteroids, AD, and of course Space Duel.

Thanks all for the kind words - and especially the offer to buy it in a heartbeat. I plan to put it on sale for $500.

Just kidding, it will be available for free on GitHub when I replace the sounds and pick a liciense. Finishing it to that point is a low priority for me but if there's someone out there willing to do some sound design, I'll take the help. PM me.

How about Space Swarm, Space Invasion, space ransack, space desperado, space privateer. You should add some sort of docking bases that refuel your shield or something. But the enemies can blow them up.

the controls look like it would be a good one to use the tempest spinner and the fire button. then use the super zapper for thrust. assuming a vertical version to be made.

I would be interested too in something like this. Would it be a jamma setup? Would you need a vector monitor, or just a vga type?

It's easiest to do a MAME type of setup. A vector monitor would be cool but would definitely complicate the process.

Oh nice! I'm all for more home brewed vector games out there. The duck sound effect is great, I hope that remains in some form as you move forward (at least as an easter egg). The game over explosion is really nice as well.

I'm interested in finding a good way to output to vector screens for Trace Vector as well. When you get to it, we'll definitely have to look into what can be done to get these programs working on real vector monitors. There's only so much LCDs and traditional CRTs can do.

Thanks! I'm going the ZVG route for now. I hope to have it up and running in a Space Duel cabinet before too long.
