Picked up this cabinet for $200. It was painted black and the previous owner stripped most of it away. I still have a lot of work to do but the side art is so good that it'd be a shape to dump the cab.

So, here we go. I already installed a marquee and bezel instruction card.

Here we go with the before pics...

The monitor that came with the cab is a Hantarex/Polo with SIGNIFICANT screen burn and in complete vertical collapse...

Luckily, I have a fully working, capped, flowed, and flybacked replacement K7000...

First things first. Went ahead and restored the control panel...

Awesome :D

It blown my Australian mind how many dedicated cabs have been converted to some second rate game over there. You guys sure do have an abundance of them.

I am on the hunt for a dedicated MK1 from the states somewhere around Illinois to put in a container and bring home for some love.

This is looking great so far, keep up the good work.

is your control panel art all repro? and have you got anything for KI1? my CP box is pretty F-ed on the sides on mine.

The sides of the panel were salvagable through mere touch-up. The front art was so badly damaged during paint removal that it had to be completely removed down to the wood and replaced with a repro vinyl decal that I had printed at my local print shop.

I don't have the "Nintendo" sides for KI, but if you can find a good quality art file, I can have them printed up and sent to you at cost.

Well, after 8 hours of hard elbow grease effort, one side is done complete with new t-molding. Turned out great. I didn't really worry too much about removing the black paint from the dark areas for obvious reasons. I just concentrated on the actual artwork areas. What do you think?...

I'll work on the other side tomorrow...

what did you use to remove the paint? I have a few cabs that were painted black that I want to remove and just worry that reg paint stripper would be too much and destroy the original side art.

You gotta use Citristrip initially and then regular lacquer thinner to get what's left. The original owner used Citristrip but when I bought the cab, I used lacquer thinner to achieve what you see above. It worked pretty well for me.

dose this apply to spray can paint also because i compleatly ruined a tmnt that was painted with that stuff using regualar paint stripper (crying on the inside)

It depends on the type of art underneath the paint. Whether it's inkjet or vinyl.

I'm gonna try it...not the citrus stuff cause I don't think Incan strip a midway cabinet and a atari cabinet with it...it'll too many cans lol I'm gonna use something else but not let it sit and eat away too far.

Other side de-painted and all exterior clean-up complete. Next step is cleaning up and stripping the inside of all the non-midway crap. Then the re-wiring, monitor, and PCB installation can begin. Stay Tuned!...

Old 80's Iso Transformer and hacked up MK1 Jamma harness removed...

SAM_2380.jpg

All original MK2 factory Midway Jamma harness and wiring installed. New power supply, PCB and everything else installed. I still need to tie everything up and extend the CGA cable. I also need to install a power switch (it was removed along with the wiring for some reason). The marquee wiring was GONE as well as the speaker wires. I had to run new wiring up to the marquee and to the speakers. The speaker has been replaced and there is a ton of light bleed coming through the grille that I need to get blacked out somehow, but I'll do all that later. I need to find some switches for the test menu, volume, and service credits that go behind the coin door. Need new locks also. All the wiring for the coin door including the lights was missing so I have to wire those up too.

I swear you have like a lifetime supply of K7000s lol. I wish I did. I got sick when I had to give up the working chassis I had in my MK2 to drop in a game we sold and my other K7000 still blows fuses. I had to throw the U5000 I used with my supergun in there and it looks so gross.

wish I could acquire some good replacement tubes. :(

I might have to take you up on control box art down the road. one of these days I need to strip the black paint off my MK2, and hope the art looks like yours and not the typical faded mess.

Actually, this K7000 was in my Mame cab and I bought a brand new 25" Makvision for it so I could throw the K7000 in this MK2. Yeah, I hope your art is good as well. It's rare to find them un-faded, at least a little. I got really lucky.

holy crap I need some lacquer thinner. I have all that nasty little black paint in all my white areas after using citristrip, I didnt know it could be removed!!

Takes a lot of elbow grease, but it should work as well for you as it did for me.
