I got this Mortal Kombat 1 Dedicated cabinet today, cabinet is in great shape, but of course painted black. I have had good results in past years with Citristrip on many Mk's, however this cabinets black paint job will not budge. Has anyone tried anything else that's more aggressive with good results stripping the paint while keeping the decals in good condition ? I also cannot figure out my my iphone pictures always show up sideways....Thanks
Chris

whoa, won't strip with citristrip? that's hardcore paint then. citirstrip and a metal scraper should do awesome. What are you using to push through the citristrip?

man you have terrible luck with the citristrip.

are you letting it sit 10 minutes, scraping then another 10 minutes w/ fresh stuff on whatever wasn't removed? (that's the way i've found it works best).

Also don't use a metal scraper on midway cabs with vinyl art, it will tear it all to hell, plastic scraper works great. (i use denatured alcohol to clean off black citristrip from the scraper in between scrapings).

I've never encountered paint like this before. Usually after 30 minutes of sitting it will at least remove something. This has no effect at all. Also I can't use a metal scraper on the decks over the wooden sides of mortal kombats since it will remove everything all the way down to the wood sides.

Right, removing everything down to the wood is what you want. that's what I did after somebody decided to spraypaint black over stargate and do a wwf superstars.

if you're expecting to remove just the black paint, that's not gonna work.

Thats not what I want, I want to reveal the graphics under the black paint. To strip it to the wood would be pointless.

Actually, this has been done many times. It just depends on what is underneath. In the case of your Stargate (painted artwork), it doesn't work. The stripper is indiscriminate on how many layers of paint you have. But with MK artwork and many other vinyl artwork (ie. Atari games), the paint can be successfully stripped. It all depends on how tough the vinyl artwork is.
