First off, im not a dibs man, but figure after the post last week, i would take this a step farther since this ive noticed a trend of WTB post people not following through as well..

Someone post a WTB thread on here, Looking for a specific item or such. You contact the person quickly (in this case, within 2 minutes) you say that you have what they want, the price, the shipping fee, stec. The person says great, and ask for your paypal address. So your searching around the forum some more, and in a little while, you notice someone posted that they had the same thing, for slightly less, like 5 bucks less for a 75.00 item. Well now you dont hear from the original poster anymore, and you never get the paypal.

So to me, this person is just as useless as someone that agrees to a deal with you and then sells to someone else because they offered more. If you are looking for a part, and agree to buy one, but then someone offers you the same item for a little less, to me you need to man up and pay the slightly higher price since you agreed already. Be a man of your words and stick to it.

Troy

p.s. the person that did this to me is now on my personal do not sell to list

I agree they should follow thru with the deal. If a deal was made!!

Agree

I agree with you. I have agreed to buy stuff in for sale posts before I will post on the thread: "I will take it, PM mr your Paypal". Meanwhile, people with the same item will PM me and try to sell me theres for less before the OP gives me his Paypal. I politely say no.

Or there is the guy that goes back and fourth asking 10 PMs full of questions about an item I have for sale. He says he will take it and will send the money. A couple days go by and i ask him if he still wants it. Then he will say some BS excuse like "I found one local" I hate those kinda things. Dibbs are dibbs either way it goes.

I think this can go both ways.

I'm in a situation where I was talking with a buyer about picking up some games a certain day, and now they want to pick the games up a few days later, but I was planning on having the games out of the way before I had house guests. If I have to break the games down and store them because I have people over, I'm less inclined to sell, but now, for fear of coming off like some kind of bad seller, I have to keep these things in my living room for 3 more days. I think it's a sucky situation. This whole "dibbs" thing can be annoying.

It seems peoples' opinions vary depending upon who they are in a deal. It's not unusual for a seller to think a deal is done when the money is received. To buyers, sometimes a basic acknowledgment is their idea of a solid thing. I've been on both sides of every combination of these deals and I've learned to take nothing for granted. I've had people tell me they definitely wanted stuff and to hold it for them, and then I waited and waited, and took time off to meet with them and been blown off. I've also had stuff sold out from under me too. If I'm the buyer, I try to make the deal as un-ambiguous as possible, (i.e. "I will be at your place at Xpm. Can I have your promise you won't sell the item before meeting with me and we have a deal?" - likewise I try to get the same commitment from a buyer - anything less than a very specific promise is always iffy).

I like the guys that respond back with some crazy low-ball offer.....that MIGHT cover postage. :) I've just about stopped replying to WTB posts because of this.

I almost never make an "I'll take it" post in a for sale thread, and I always wondered why people do. I also found it odd that so many threads followed up the "I'll take it" post with a "still available" post. I thought it must be a case of lowballing but I see underselling the OP is common as well...

To get back on topic: One a deal is made I feel that it should be stuck to. Any breaking of the deal by either party (such as not picking up the product at the agreed upon time, not paying on time) constitutes breaking the deal. Once the deal is broken something new must be negotiated and this reopens the possibility of a deal being struck with someone else. Only once have I moved on to a second buyer and that was because the first buyer burned me in two previous transactions.
