Pick Up: Exidy Cabaret!
Yesterday I picked up this machine off CL for $250.
Well, actually I sent my Toady, Tbbk, to pick it up for me as I was at work. I had to bribe him with a smoked/tinted plexi bezel, gas money, and an anti-wife-aggro donation so it was all fair. More pics are at the bottom.
Really, the cab is in great shape. The control panel is almost immaculate. It does have some very slight damage to the edges of the bottom of the cab. The coindoor needs to be sanded and repainted. It's missing the backdoor and some of the coin mechs, which do still work. Specifically, it is missing part of the coin return mechs if anyone has them for sale.
The game plays but there is no sound. I did notice that one of the wire harness's edge connector plugs was hanging loose inside the machine. Then I saw that a smaller board (audio board?) on top of the PCB had an empty edge connector to which the aforementioned plug obviously belonged. I plugged the smaller board in, plugged the machine in, and verified no smoke. Still there was no sound and I then noticed the speaker was not hooked up. I'll look at that later.
The PCB appears to have an extra empty (not hooked up) edge connector. The PCB is already hooked up to the harness on the one side and plays well but on the side of the PCB facing the back of the cab there's just an empty edge connector sitting there. What's this go to? Am I missing a component? Sorry, I'll try to get some pics of the inside of the machine taken & posted later tonight.
The monitor needs to be recapped as it's a little fuzzy and kind of dim. The lower Marquee does light up but it goes off & on at unidentifiable times/intervals. Is this intended? Or, should it be on the whole time?
Now one thing I really found strange, there's a hole drilled at the bottom of each side by the back bottom corners. Both holes look like they measure out to be at the exact same spot on each of the two side panels. Could this have been done at the factory accidentally? Like both panels were laying on top of each other and then "Whoops! Crap I just drilled through these two panels! Ahh! They'll be fine!" I just can't see why there would be a hole at the same spot on each side; specifically, at that spot! What's down there to support?
Anyway, that's my newest find! Here's some more pics:
