Once again i'm writing a paper on arcade games. I'm writing about the importance of arcade gaming versus console gaming. Could you guys help me out, and write about how you feel about arcade games, and how they're more(or less)significant to console gaming.

Thanks in advance, and this paper is due soon, so the sooner you respond, the better. :D

Arcade games provided several important benefits over consoles available at the time.

First, they provided a much more immersive experience than consoles. Arcade games had better graphics and sound than consoles. They used controls that simulated the real world objects depicted in the video games. For example the tank controls in Battlezone, the streering wheel in Pole Position. They also used innovative controls that were not available for home consoles of the days. The trackball in Centipede, the sheer number of buttons used in Defender to name two.

Second the arcades (the spaces housing video games) were a place to congregate with your friends. They provided a (generally) safe place to interact socially, in person . Today, I still don't concider yelling at someone you have never met two continants away over your wireless headset while sitting on your couch in front of a 50" plasma or LCD screen social interaction. So call me a Luddite. :6:

I always loved arcade games, and arcades. Even roller rinks, any place that had arcade machines I could be found. Then one day I heard a friend of mine said hey I've got space invaders at my house.

I, of course was expecting a full size arcade! To my dismay it was an Atari 2600. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. Back then you got horrible graphics, joysticks that were not arcade style, and funky little paddles? Of course since that time, consoles have evolved, but before that really happened I got into computer games. Which had more buttons and controls like arcade games. I hate those stupid little thumb stick controllers. And buttons labeled A B X Y. My brain doesn't want to grasp the concept that the Green button is A, A should be Red. RGB right, R=A G=B, but then Green will always be Smart Bomb!!! I hate consoles. I even tried the WII Nope..

I will still play computer games, as my choice of controllers is way better. Wheels, Flight sticks, Mouse, Keyboard, and the list goes on. I did try playing Star Wars on the computer, back in the early days, Infact I still have that game on 5 inch floppies. I don't even have a drive for those anymore. I barely have a 3 incher.

I do still have my 2600, with tons of games my parents bought over the years. I never parted with it, and I still play those games. Like Yars revenge. They are fun. Games back in the early 80s required interaction, imagination, and $.25 Pixels were the thing, building blocks. Now pixels are so small, and images so real it's amazing, but where does ones imagination come into play?

Nah, I'll stick to my pixels, and my 1 game takes a 3'x2' space over a console anyday.
