Years ago I picked up my first Gorf.. I enjoyed playing it as a kid.. I had nothing but troubles with my first machine, could not keep it running.. I installed a arcadeshop switcher and adapter pcb. The machine checked out fine, but did not work right everything pointed to board issues.. So I bought a tested working board from a ebay seller, didn't work!! The I bought another supposedly tested board set it had problems too.. The machine frustrated me more than any other machine I have owned.. So it went to the garage..

Over the next few years I picked up 2 more uprights and a mini, all non working.. After all the troubles with the first machine, I avoided these machines.. My wife was born in 1981, and missed the Golden Arcade Age.. When she was 5, she saw her first arcade.. It was a Gorf.. She is not interested in most of my machines.. But she LOVES GORF,,,

Last month I figured it was time to get her a Gorf up and running for her.. I pulled out the original machine swapped the board set from one of the other 3, and BAM its been solid ever since!!

Looking at the Seattle Game Show list for this year, I noticed Gorf was not on the list.. I said to myself WTF!! The Show must have a Gorf, So I decided it was time to work on Gorf #2.. Gorf #2 had a great bottom but the top of the babinet was beat.. Gorf #3 had bad water damage on the bottom, but had a Beautiful top, marquee, bezel and control panel..

Gorf Surgery began 2 weeks ago.. Cabinet #2 was stripped down to the last bolt, The top of Gorf #3 was removed and made ready for transplant.. Coin door repainted..

Today Gorf #2 lives thanks to Donor parts from Gorf #3.. Now its time to get the Mini going..

The Seattle Show will have a Gorf!!!

I set both machines up next to each other, before Gorf #1 left for a new home.. Gorf #2 is now my Wifes machine.. But my son might fight her for it.. I need to get the Mini done for him.. He loves gorf..

Last picture is my son playing Gorf #1 a few weeks ago.. I didnt get any pictures of him today with both machines.. He was very excited to see 2 running side by side..

Thanks.. my neighbor has been watching me work on this for the last week.. He said toss that in the trash!! He was pretty shocked to see it today.. He still thinks im crazy for putting in all this time on Gorf:eek:

Gorf #2 turned out nice.. At some point it will get a full restore, but with the Seattle Show only a few weeks away it will have to do for now...

Makes me also want to play gorf. Best I can do is the Phoenix pcb. My gorf is in storage and hasn't been powered up for 5 years. But once I move all my games will come out of storage.

Sweet pictures of your restoration buddy! Looks amazing!! Your little guy looks so happy with the game also!
I totally will have to get myself a Gorf for my collection someday! Remember it being the #1 game i wanted to get for my Vic 20 computer when i got it way back when i was a kid. LOL

It's really awesome to see that the one Gorf has the early control panel with the vents... good job on getting them up and running. :beerchug:

Dan,

What's the big black plastic panel for on the back of the cab?

The 'bubble'? That's because the monitor is too big for the cab.

Yup... All of them have the bubble.. Even my mini has the bubble.. I personally think it was a bad design, but it is unique..

The Bubble makes it hard as hell to move.. I hate to put a hand cart on the sides of a machine, but not much of a choice with this machine..

Im going to bring the mini in the house tonight, to start looking at it.. I will take some pics of it, including the bubble..

Yeah, or the cab was not designed correctly for the monitors. Many Midways, cabarets and URs alike, have the bubble...

Galaxian cabaret...
