Freshly capped my Sanyo. Put everything back together, plugged it in and for 10 seconds it had one of the nicest pictures I've ever seen on a 20EZ. Then, nothing. Friend said he heard a noise from the chassis, but couldn't see any smoke. After about 30 seconds of power you can start to smell the burning -- not electrical -- but more like dust and residue. The neck of the monitor emanates heat, but no components on it are hot to the touch. We noticed that the wire you screw into the right side (from behind) of the chassis wasn't connected. Screwed it in and still no effect.

Summary: Blank monitor, heat from neck, no glow, smell of non-electrical burning after 30 seconds.

Check your voltage as after recapping it may have gone up too high due to the increased efficiency provided by the new ones. The heat could be coming from a resistor that is getting too much power or even a potential short from the recapping. I would look over all your solder points and look for issues there as well. One of the new caps could have accidently been installed with he wrong polarity, or even just popped due it being defecive. Look for buldged tops on the caps. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on specific issues will offer there advice as I am still a novice at monitors but this gives you a place to start.

did you measure the B+ it should be 108vdc.

did you replace the pot. if it is the old metal POS i would.

try turning the B+ pot down then turn on the monitor to see what you get.
adjust the B+ to 108vdc slowly with a non conductive tool.

if it is two high it will do what your describing.
but by not connecting that black ground you may have smoked another part.
i do not know witch parts are affected by not hooking up the black wire.

Peace
