Add was posted on Springfield, MO craigslist for a couple of dead machines. One of them, a William's Blaster in a duramold shell for $100. I know time is off the essence for deals, but unfortunately I am 3 hours away. I call the guy up, ask him if it is still for sale and confirm he is selling it for $100. He says yes, so I tell the guy that the ad states it is non-working. I don't need to view it to make a decision, I am bringing $100 to pick up the dead machine. I also inform him of my driving distance to make sure he isn't going to pull the plug on me, and tell him I will be there in 3 hours. He confirms it, gives me directions, and I am out the door in 5 minutes.

I am on the road for more than 1 hour, and I get a phone call. He "informs" me that he has been researching this game, it is worth more than that, and he can no longer sell the game until he can research more thoroughly the "higher" price that he will be selling it for. I let him know I have already been on the road for 1 hour, and will have been on the road for 2 hours by the time I get home for nothing. Unfortunately he had made up his mind and was no longer selling it to me. So now I am out of 2 hours out of my life and approximately $15 in gas.

So a big thank you for all those Craigslisters who don't research their stuff before making a deal to sell it to someone. I also am aware that there is a big possibility someone tried to make a deal with him after I was already on the road, or at the very least "alert" him to the fact that the machine might be worth more money. So if that was anyone here on KLOV who did that, a big heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to you. May you reap what you sow.

That sucks, but take a chill pill, your gripe is with the craigslist douchebag for not honoring his word, not anyone here over something you don't even know happened...

Perhaps I was a little overzealous when I titled my email to him:

zomg! Is that Blaster in a Duramold cabinet?!?!? I'll be there in 20 minutes with $500!!!!

:D

Thats funny, you guys are too much. Also, I do place all the blame squarely on the seller for having no morals. I'm just giving the heartfelt THANK YOU to anyone who "knowingly" was swaying the guy to break a deal with someone who was on their way to pick it up.

I think many of us have fun looking for that rare find or warehouse raid or barn raid. That is the fun part of this hobby. If you happen to be a person that will knowingly kick out more money to make someone break a deal, then that is just a sad, sad person. It's just a personal opinion is all.

Yeah, it sucks when you get all jacked up, thinking you're gonna get a steal only to have it ripped out from under you. It's happened to all of us, I would bet.

However, it only makes it that much sweeter when you actually do land one.

Better luck next time, man.

dude, there are some things I can not let slide. This would be one time that I'd let the dude have it. You know his name? You know his email? Post a nice "go-stick-it-in-your-arse-____________!" And be sure to list his email/ phone number.

Feel like getting really saucy? Take that drive to see him. Take that drive to see him at three in the morning. Take that drive to see him at three in the morning with 2 cartons of eggs handy.

I only would be so pissed, becuase his stupidity had now just cost me time and money. Had he changed his mind within ten minutes, no worries. This guy should not be allowed to breed.

aahhhhhhhhhh. Breathe. I feel better now.

That DOES seem pretty shitty. I have only ever had ONE CL success over the years and that was for an absolutely mint NBA Jam for only $150. It was in such good condition, I turned around and sold it for $1000. That's my only CL success story.

IMHO don't think a six hour round trip drive is worth egging a house, but posting all of his information in the adult section of CL is priceless. lol

I would bet he received an email from an internet nice guy that was out of state telling him how under priced he had it. I attempted to buy some atv parts from a guy and a local shop literally called him and said hey this is so and so from LRD performance. We saw your ad and that motor is WAY too low priced. Yes the guy raised the price. Regardless sorry to hear you lost that one. That would've beaten any deal yet this year!

I use "eggs" to avoid getting in trouble with moderators. ;)

Contact him using a different email address and agree to pay his new asking price. Then schedule a pickup time and email him at the last minute saying you cant make it and reshedule for the next day. Repeat this as many times as you can and then finally inform him that this was payback. I screwed with someone like this after they backed out on me. Boy did it piss him off. Wont get you the game but it will give you a warm fuzzy feeling.

Sorry to hear that B.... I think we've all been there to some degree or another. I'm sure the person who scored the game, especially if they are reading this thread might just think twice about posting a "guess what I just got" thread.

Well, the ad seems to be gone now. I would see if the A*hole relists it with a different price. If not, then you know it was bogus to begin with.

You could always get this hellcaded Tempest...its in your area.

This is why I limit how far I'll drive in first place..unless I know seller personally...or have had enough communication to know he isn't going to pull that kind of shit...if he was going to research he'd of told you when you called...someone tipped him off..best part is that asshole likely didn't even buy it...was just happy to screw someone else from getting it to...there seems to be a mentality of if I can't be happy neither can anyone else these days...sorry to hear...but you'll score something eventually...if you keep looking.

You know, CL now requires you to sign up for an account. I'd report him. Might not do much good, but at least its something, and you never know.

Heres my question, whatcha gonna do if he calls back and says "OK, Ill take $100"? We are talking about a weak economy combined with a douchebag seller after all.
