There's a difference between questionable 80's records where no verification was actually required, and fraudulent 'modern' records where completely technically incompetent and corrupt Twin Galaxies "officials" verified scores for the in-crowd and rejected score from others.

Yeah, it's all ridiculous, that's why I don't give their proclaimed high scores any real weight, particularly when the claimers are unable to recreate their high scores or even get in the ballpark.

And arbitrary grandfathering schemes don't help either.

This whole videogame high scores thing should be about fun, getting together and playing some games...

Fun, fun - you stole Mr. Awesome´s Missile Command Highscore, im pretty sure his fun was very limited ( just kidding, that was the best chapter in your book ).
