Alright.. at the early stages of bringing my aussie '720' to life. Game boots fine. No graphical or sound issues. However, Joystick did not register at all under test. No skater movement.

Replaced the LETA chip on my board today and WOO HOO .. some skater movement & joystick registers ..... somewhat. During the calibration set-up stage, 3/4 of the square register boxes come up, except for a group of them in the lower right corner (see pics). I then need to spin the joystick around again and another 2 register. Spin it again and another 2 register, Spin it again and the last 1 or 2 register!!???? Bizarre.

My voltages are fine at the CPU board, running the joystick test with +5 adjusted from 5.0v upto 5.18v at the board and Joystick opto coupler board. The Coupler board is new from Ram Controls. Threw in the old opto board... and it worked with the same problem.

Maybe a dodgy LETA chip off my spare board?? The board looked slightly hammered, with mulitple bent header pins.

Have heard of random squares not registering, but no the same area. Also occasionally, one square will register in a different area to where the joy is pointing.. but I think this happened when the +5 was just under or on 5v at the Coupler board ... which I know can cause issues if it's slightly low.

Anyone ... Bueller??

Hi;
I have a somewhat similar (?) problem.
My 720 game plays "almost" perfect with the exception that sometimes the skater is not alinged with the controller, all's fine then he's off 45 deg. I shut down the game and then he plays fine for hours on end, then all of a sudden, bam, he's off again anywhere from 40 Deg. to 180 Deg.
I tried the test as you had and.... I get NO registration of the controller spinning - nothing. Also during the playfield test, no movement while spinning the controller.
All tests come up OK, RAM, ROM, CPU, Pokey etc. no errors at all.
Can anyone explain that one!
Thanks
Jeff

my 720 works fine and the controller is always registered fine, but i have to make sure it is at 90 degrees to the right when i power up the game, or else it is off..
whenever i do the self test, i get NO registering when i spin the wheel and all squares remain empty? while we are on this topic, anyone have any ideas what my problem might be?
thanks

For reference .. further testing 2day.
Took the boards out and tested harness continuity from the optic coupler board pins (with harness plugs attached) right back to the relevant header plug. All good. Cleaned board connectors, including main cpu 2 video board connector. No board/rom errors during test
Tested the old optic coupler board again.. same registering fault occured.. so its definately not the optic coupler board. All voltages appear fine at their relevant spots.
However, slightly different fault appeared twice, b4 it reverted back to the original fault.
As i was turning the joystick, it registered to about the 5 O'clock position, then a block registered on the opposite block.. that was around 11 O'clock.. whilst the joystick was still in the 5 position. Then the usual .. about 3 full rotatation b4 all blocks registered, but the joystick was still outta wack. This happened twice b4 the fault went back to the initial fault as mentioned in first post.. ie just missing blocks and collecting the left overs with a few more rotations.
Have a mate (KLOV member 'Gibo') with some 720 boards he picked up, which he wants to test in my machine. We'll see what we find then.
Cheers

Had the same problem with my 720 as would play fine but would come out 45 degrees off. Purchased a new optic board from RAM Control and all was good. It appears the optics had gone bad on only one of the encoders. Also purchased a extra set of optics to replace but sold the game before I repaired the other board. Hope this helps.

720 problems

i have this exact same problem. my guy is usually 45 degress off. and when i do the test i never get any of the squares to fill in. i have totally rebuilt the controller and new optic board. sometimes when i start the game the skater is pointed to the north but usually not.

any help would be great.

thanks,
