Annual Gameroom & Collectible Auction - Dec 8 - Lapeer, MI

If you're local to Michigan, there's an annual gameroom and collectibles auction in Lapeer, MI on Saturday, December 8th.

There's usually a small but pretty good selection that runs the gamut from projects to multicades, and Rowley's is a professional outfit. Auctions are so rare these days in our area that's it's nice to have it. Plus if you're into stuff like soda/liquor collectibles, gas pumps, etc., there's plenty of that too.

Anyone else go to this auction today? I would have to say without a doubt this was the most disappointing auction I've seen there. Most games were conversions of some kind and only a few classics. I threw out a bid on the Missile Command but didn't want it bad enough to go more...that one went for $210 I think. The were also 2 upright Ms Pacs both not in very good shape and a Ms Pac cocktail in a Stern cab...that one went for $450. Given this is basically the only option for us Michiganders in terms of auctions, I'd have to say this is very disappointing to say the least. This really makes me miss Super Auctions. :( I know they weren't the best but I really miss the thrill of going to an auction with a large amount of games.

I went too. It was my first live arcade auction, and I was hoping for more machines (as well as some beer related neon). Nothing really caught my eye, but if something did, I would have needed to rent a uhaul for the ride home, and that deterred me as well.
I think the Tekken 2 went for about $175, and seemed to be in nice shape. Escape from the planet of the robot monsters had seen better days, but went for $75 IIRC.

That's cool it was your first live auction. :) Things in MI used to be better with Super Auctions because they usually came to either Detroit or Kalamazoo at least once and often twice a year. Even with the ones I've been to over the last several years I think the heyday of live auctions was probably in the 90's. In reality I guess with a dying industry you can't expect to see regular auctions anymore (at least around here). I mean that's why arcade and amusement game auctions started...so people in the biz could buy and sell equipment. As collectors we just reap some of the benefits on getting good deals. I told my buddy on the way home today we should consider going to an out of state auction and the first one I thought of was US Amusement Auction but looks like they are done too. I have to admit I'm jealous of all the Texas guys because Mesquite seemed to have them almost every month with Super Auctions (maybe not so much anymore IDK). It's probably been discussed before, but this sounds like a good topic to start in general discussion at least from a Michigan or Midwest point of view.

I did have a good time watching the action and would love to see more arcade auctions in Michigan! I missed one in Flint about a month ago, I believe... an estate sale for "Eddie's Amusements". I'm still seeing some of those items coming up on craigslist.

Yeah I totally missed that one too. I've stopped into their showroom a number of times just to see what they had and pretty much every game was overpriced especially by KLOV standards. Years ago my parents bought a pool table from them and they two guys come over and assemble it at the house.
