Announcing: Atari Assault high score save

I've added the high score saving ability to the original Assault code. I did some quick testing last night, but I'll need to do some more thorough testing before I send it out to anyone. All kits shipped from now on will have the ability to save high scores for both Assault and Assault Plus (independently).

NOTE: This kit is a plug-n-play high score save for Assault Plus. The Assault multigame part is a bonus feature you get for free, and enabling it requires some additional work (simple soldering of a game-select toggle). Any modifications you perform are at your own risk.

Nice job Matt

I still have a few kits left, ready to ship immediately.
Still only $40 shipped (in the US and Canada).

Over a month ago I added the ability to save scores on regular Assault as well as Plus (as some people implied that the lack of that was a deal-breaker), and since then I've sold one kit (and that person said he was going to buy it regardless).

Terrific kit! My good friend Stuffmonger came over and installed it. Both games work great although he couldn't get the spst toggle switch to swap between games with dip 7 in either position. We tried off first. I'll try to find time to double check to see if everything was wired Exactly the same as what's shown on the install page :)

This kit is a must for all assault owners imo. Great job Matt!

Thanks Tom. Funny that the DIP would work but not the toggle.... If wired correctly they should be doing the same thing (grounding that line when switched On). The toggle is just acting as a remote DIP switch. I haven't tried the remote toggle in a cabinet myself yet... I don't own an Assault. :001_ssad: A local friend of mine should be hooking his up fairly soon. If he encounters any problems I'll let you know.
Did the Assault wiring harness already have the Tilt wire on it?

Stuffmonger texted:
------------
Yeah, it looked like the tilt wire was present. I didn't follow it to see if it went anywhere though.
------------

so it sounds like we'll have to look into it further and double check. Matt could you please drop me a pm regarding the outcome of your friends install? Thanks man :)

DIP 7 needs to be OFF for the remote switch to work.
Verify that your switch isn't bad - I've had brand new ones be bad on me. Granted they were radio shack, but it's still something to check.
Verify (which you already said you were doing) that the Tilt wire really goes all the way through.

Once you've checked all that, probe (DMM set to DC volts) the switch on the 'Tilt' wire side, and verify that it's voltage changes when you flip the switch.

Hi all. I thought I'd pop in and give the final solution for fatherpain's assault. I figured out why it wouldn't work, and now it does work perfectly.

On the original assault machine, there is a filterboard that connects between the main board and the harness. This board does not pass through the tilt line, so you need to bridge the tilt pins on both ends of the filterboard. Then, voila, it will work.

Thanks for figuring that out. I added a note to the multigame install page with a picture of his modified filterboard:

This kit is truly a must have for all assault owners...never believed I'd ever see a kit produced for this game...let alone one thats allows you to play both assault and assault plus at the flick of a switch.
