Does anyone here have pictures of an actual Angler Dangler marquee or control panel? So far the only things I have been able to turn up are flyers for both it and its clone "Fishing", which the title fonts at the very least will be useful but not much else, and the extremely low-res captures I've been able to extract from the Starcade episodes.

I've managed (thanks masterkas!) to get my hands on an Angler Dangler DECO cassette system tape, and if the arcade gods are smiling on me, and the data on the tape is still viable when I send it to, ehem, a MAME team member for extraction and backup, I hope to put together a working Angler Dangler boardset and cab from scratch.

Data dump successful!! :D Booyah!

I guess it took him 10 tries to dump it as the recording is in rough shape but he managed it and now the data is safe and preserved, I will NOT be shocked if the game now turns up in the next MAME update! Another classic saved from the brink of extinction!!! :D :D :D!!!

Now all I've got to do is figure out a way to re-record a data cassette which is completely different from standard cassettes :( I have some ideas, one way or another I think it can be done. But then there's the issue with not having the security dongle....

FYI - I guess DECO cassettes are the same as the data cassettes used for HP hp-71b scientific calculators... not exactly something found at Radio Shack either, but if someone knows of a source please let me know.

Is there any merit to a possible swap with a cd player? http://www.everything2.com/title/Deco+Cassette+System

It's a thought and I might have to play around with that idea too, although I don't know if it'll be quick enough to satisfy the DECO board without it coming up with an error because of any delays in playing, CDs have to pick the track, get up to speed, etc before actually playing. I was thinking of using an Arduino powered OGG Vorbis player to make a solid state substitute, although I don't know if its playback quality is good enough for data, but it would be awesome if it does as I could just make the whole circuit plug in the connector for the deck's cable and leave that whole mess out completely.

The beauty of this data dump is in return I'm getting a WAV with the captured data so I can re-record the tape (which REALLY needs it badly I guess), so I'll be all set with that file to experiment with differently ways of playing it.

Here's some screen shots of the hopefully soon-to-be emulated game:

Great work! Congratulations on saving a game from oblivion. Please post an update if you ever track down the art.

Thanks!

I figure if worse comes to worse I can use the title font from the flyer and improvise a marquee from there, but it would be nice to get as close to original as possible. But I'm getting ahead of myself here a little, I've still got to get the thing actually working and that may be an uphill battle.
