Finally!

tron3.jpg

tron2.jpg

Picked this up today. After waiting out all the hype...today it happened. I have been trying to buy one for months. I waited a bit too long and the movie keep me from getting one that wasn't 1000+++ until now.

tron1.jpg

Had just enough time today to go grab it and get it back to the shop and shoot these few pics. I will post more as I go through it next week.

It belonged to a guy that said he had it for 25+ years. Said his step dad had bought several when he was a kid and this one he had hung on to. He said it has been in the back house at his inlaws for the last 15 years. He said that it had not been plugged in in several years.

It powered up with garbage on the screen....so I am thinking power supply or those damn ribbon cables. Ill play more with it on Monday.

I will sleep well tonight ;) ....Merry Christmas!

+1 for power supply or ribbon cable issues.

do yourself a huge favor and reflow all the header pins on the pcbs, sound board, etc

nice pickup. i wouldn't even clean that up myself, aside from a scrubdown and touching up the black on the art. that cab is pretty clean.

Very Nice.

Always cool to find a Tron! Good or bad! Nice find.

Congrats on the score, Andy. "Finally" is right, long time coming for you. How far did you have to drive this time to pick this baby up? :)

Thanks guys. Yes it is really nice.
Besides the dust and few nicks and scrapes it is one of the most solid cabs I have found.
A little elbow grease and this baby will be sweet! All the plastic is perfect...no cracks...it might need the art on the inside left...but its really not bad...oh and a spinner decal and the "Tron" logo on the stick is cracked in half. Ill post more pictures on Monday. I didn't really get a chance to mess with it on Friday.

Yeah...1 piece of inner art and inserts will quickly spiral out of control when you start seeing how awesome it can be with everything replaced! Nice score and best of luck! BTW-what did it run you?

Yeah...I figured! ;) I paid 700. Not a bad deal considering that a few weeks ago you couldn't find one around here for less than 1400$.

BTW...Nice job with yours! Hoping that mine comes out almost as nice!

That's pretty nice for $700...better than what I started out with. The nice thing about restoring a Tron is that there's everything out there for it.

First thing this morning I did the old reseat the roms trick and.....

congrats, a little cleaning up and the game will look nice, you can also touch up the nicks on the sideart on the black parts with a black paint marker and it'll look fine if you don't decide to put new side art.

Very sweet find! Welcome to the grid.

I'm a newish owner myself having just picked up one last month. Looks like your black light reflector paper is a little out of sorts like mine was. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought some reflector "chrome" poster board to cover it. I measured the old reflector paper and installed the new poster board over it. Worked like a charm.

nice

Nice find. I just bought a tron from a fellow member on Thursday. It was not working when I picked it up. I got it home and got it working after a few hours. I have a similar strip of color on the lower right side of the monitor as yours. Its almost identical. I thought it was a pcb issue or something. After seeing yours I was wondering if it is common? Any info or ideas from fellow members would be appreciated.

Thanks
PaulPaul

I have been told that they all do this....was going to stretch the screen (so its on the edge) but I have no key and have to drill the top lock first. I just hate to have to do it to this original machine. Can someone tell me if I can get the back of the lock if I remove the inside art?
