Andys80s EDOT Adventure

Can't help you with the lights, but with the amount of Bondoing required to fix your back door, I would just grab some MDF at Home Depot and cut your own. Will take less time and look much better.

The back door and the floor are going to be replaced. Hopefully they will be the only parts.

Heres a bit of play by play from this weekend.

Gutted the cab...all boards, Wire harness, CPO, speakers...etc. Took off all the vinyl inside cockpit (someone had spray painted all the vinyl so this was a big mess. WHY!?)

Took out (more like fell out) some of the inside supports...Coin door face, foot plate, main pcb back board.

Wanna see what I found in the bottom under the coin box housing?

The old "seat" carpet...

Thinking about having the ENCOM logo stiched into some nice dark gray or black leather for the seat recover.

added some more pics from Sunday to the 10-03-10 file.

Tonight I worked a bit on the cabinet art...ok a lot... I am always amazed at what you can do with a few sharpies!

Here are some before and after pictures...its not finished yet but getting better...im still planning on scanning it.

Be careful.. EDOT is held together by staples, tiny nails and a whole lot of prayer. Putting it back together again after a failure of structural integrity is made more difficult by the need to ensure the front partially-mirrored glass sits at the right angle with the orange/red-and-black inside art to create the desired effect.

How many color variations of the side art are there? I've seen EDOTs with the "of" in Discs of Tron blue and some have white. Also Sark, the Bally Midway logo, and the letters in Discs of Tron on my EDOT has red. So now, including yours, I've seen 3 different color variations in EDOT sideart.

Check out what I'm talking about regarding the sideart coloring by looking at the EDOTs in this thread:

If a repo was made for EDOT side art, which variation would you go with?

Thanks for that MadocOwain...Ill keep that in mind!

and xarcade ive seen that. Im not sure how many variations there are...or if it is just a fade. I like the orange/red of the midway/ballys logo and was thinking about doing that to mine. I thought it might just be faded as is the case with one side of my SW machine. The x wing had lost all its orange...but thats why god created sharpies! The "OF" on mine looks like it came blue and was not touched up in any way. Personally I think that the blue "OF" kinda gets lost and think that the white looks better.

Scanner just showed up!

scanner.jpg

Did a few test drives and it works great! Scanning at 8 1/2 by 11 1/2 is going to be FUN...NOT! Accounting for overlap it should only take 2 months! ;)

300 or 600 dpi? Anyone? and whats the best type of file to save as?

bit of an update.....been side tracked lately getting my BZ up and running
(thanks road.runner) and messing with the Tapper pcb.
Tonight I finished pulling the spray painted vinyl off one side of the inside of the cab and stripped the back door of all its usable parts.

Here are the pics

been meaning to get to the sharpie.....

here are a few pics of the ones im using...they have no names on them which sucks....

IMG_1682.jpg

IMG_1681.jpg

The way I use them is in a small area...I use the pen with the color that matches closest and before it dries (while it is still wet) I rub it around with my finger...if it is a line type scratch I rub with the scratch...yes this makes a mess of your finger but works well for colors that are a bit too dark for the area. Try not to rub the wet color into other colors of your art work. Sharpie is a pain to remove once it dries.
Remember to clean your finger between colors ;)

Some colors are not going to match...I have found that using a lighter color sometimes works better than one that is too dark. Test a small area first and use the rub method! And most of all this takes time so don't be in a hurry and expect a great result.
