Well, not sure what the heck I was thinking looking on Craigslist, but I ended up with a TAF (The Addams Family) today. The playfield is in great shape, but it sure needs some serious elbow grease. Already did one pass on the playfield, and dirtied up two cleaning cloths. Have at least two more passes, then time to wax it. Several of the targets need to be replaced, but other then that its in great working order with a flawless translite, DMD, and great art work. I forgot how difficult this machine was for sure.

Congrats!

My wife & I really want one of these. Did you get a good deal on it?

I wouldnt say I got an amazing deal or anything, I paid 2700. I agree about the ball save, its wierd playing a DMD style pin that doesnt have a ball save. Though I got into a groove on the machine last night, and was doing pretty good. The flippers on this machine are wicked strong, making some of the close shots very challenging because if you miss, you dont have much time to adjust. I also havent found this machine to require much nudging. Ill get some pics when I get it cleaned up.

So far I only have two complaints with the game play. The first is the board is unusually dark for a pinball. I kept thinking I had lights out or maybe they were missing. The second thing is the ball almost always goes into the swamp after making the train shot. This really interrupts the flow of play for me. I often feel like I am always waiting for the ball to be kicked out of someplace.

The thing shot is pretty neat, and my son really digs the hand coming up on the playfield. Now that I have a few games under my belt, it has become quite a bit easier. You can really see that Lawlor took a lot of the game design from TAF and applied it to NGG, though there was immense improvement on NGG as far as game flow goes.

Alot of people put a spotlight pointing towards the bookcase area. You can find pics online of it. It's just a hex post with one of those little floods pointing in to that dark area...

You can also add some green lights to the swamp and to the swamp scoop..

I don't have any of these mods myself, just a heads up :)

**most shots to the train on mine also go into the swamp as well**
I normally always shoot for the left ramp as it relights the chair and also you can get 2x bear ramp in the inlane, I never shoot for the train really anymore. Plus it's also 2xJACKPOT!! :) :)

That spotlight is exactly what this machine needs. It takes me a ball to get used to the blind area up there. I will have to get that piece.

I hit the train because I suck at hitting the ramp :)

Congrat's on your new pin from another PDXGeek. TAF is one of the greats for sure.

I am a one pin guy ST:TNG, but I have shitloads of videogames.
PM me if you are interested in joining a local arcade collecting group, we are primarily video game oriented, but many have and play pins as well...

Thanks Brick. PM Sent. TAF definitely is a grind machine. You can spend the whole game racking up serious points by simply hitting the ramp, hitting the chair, ramp, chair, ramp chair etc. Has some seriously dangerous shots though. Now that i have the machine more balanced, and playing right, I like the name Drain Wreck for that train shot. I always panic when I miss the ramp. Im still only averaging around 300mil a game though, havent been able to break 1000mil, and every now and then I get crushed by bad shots.

I gotta say. This machine is really growing on me. It really requires some good Pinball skills to muster scores over 300 mil. I think this is the first stop and go style machine that I have really enjoyed. I cant believe I said this machine doesnt require much nudgeing early on. Man, you have to rock this machine to keep that ball from draining! Lots of practicle flipper skills need to be used, which makes this a great Pinball trainer for us intermediate players. Getting really good at doing live catches from the ejects, though my fester eject goes in odd directions at times, which makes it incredibly challenging for sure. Really happy with this buy!
