And the next ColorDMD is TAF! (Addams Family)

The preview looks sweet. I do so want an Addams one day. Too many good games and not enough dough. :D

Weird thing is, I'm just finishing the shop/restore of the one I bought in, get this, February 1997! It was so beat! The worst part is, I can't blame anyone but myself for it. Looks sweet now.

Really cool looking, I didn't know they made colored ones. I wonder why stern doesn't use something like these on the new pins?

West. Its a LCD screen. The name is misleading. Stern's LCD system is likely coming in the next year or so.

This is just my opinion I don't know I'm really pressed about the whole color dmd thing. I think it looks cool, jaw dropping and incredible. But.. It's completely changing the screen of how it originally was but it just leaves a non-original taste in my mouth. I'm on the fence about these, don't get me wrong I think it's neat but I generally prefer originality. That would be like some one taking lets say the original wizard of oz movie turning the black and white part into color, and having when it hit's the color part go to 3d...I guess it's cool if you have 400-500 burning a hole in your pocket. But the games that these are out for are in the 4-12k range depending on condition so I guess they won't be catering to "B" games. I think the price is a little steep if they were to pump them out on lets say a sub-par 2000 game.

I think it makes it look like Commodore 64...

and I mean that entirely in a negative way. cool for the innovation though I guess, but this is like Ted Turner colorizing old movies in my book.

this is still my favorite pin of all time. I too wish I had it. :(

I completely agree with you on this, but, the opposite of what you say is also true. Nobody with a cheap game is going to buy one. They are talking about a programmer's kit so they could be developed by others in the future. I own the AFM one and I'll get the TAF as soon as it's available. But I didn't pay anything near $4K for either of my games. But it was a LONG time ago...

I don't like that it's for TAF Gold ROMs. I'm still waiting on the chance to buy the AFM ColorDMD, but I'm holding off on TAF until I see whether or not I need to upgrade to the Gold ROMs for sure.

For me, this is a deal breaker

"If I buy a ColorDMD for Game X, can I later update it to work with Game Y?

The short answer is "no." The ColorDMD is configured during manufacture to colorize a specific game through a product key that is unique to each driver board and game. "

These look awesome in person and are a huge improvement over the original DMDs, pricey but well worth IMO.
