The wife has been on me lately to fix my own stuff, rather than fixing other peoples stuff. So after months in waiting, I am ready to start the Xenon play field swap.

The first part of course was to build a rotisserie and mount the new playfield to it. Well, it ain't pretty but it should work fine.

Next I will have to un-bury the donor playfield and bring it into the house. I hope this doesn't take as long as it looks to complete.

Wish me luck.

Nice to see this started Dave. I'm sure it won't take too long and you've got nothing but time anyway right? Can't wait to see it done. - Barry

Tester007 has already done this exact swap, I'm sure he would be able to give you some guidance/insight.

It doesn't look too bad, but I know I need a bunch of lamp sockets and would like to go with mostly new hardware. All of the post covers are clear from age and will need to be replaced. Pretty sure I am going with new pop bumper plastics and lamp holders too. I still have to get my buddy to help me bring the donor cab into the house. I will probably start with the DT assy, as I have the parts to rebuild it all nice and pretty. After that, no clue... roll over buttons maybe.

getting ready to do a PF swap on this SHARPSHOOTER i rescued

need to build a rotisserie too. fun looking at peoples' solutions
trying to figure out how to hang it from the ceiling but who knows

Cool! Good luck.

Xenon isn't terribly complicated and the schematics are readily available so you can't get into TOO much trouble ;)

Should still be a challenge though. And a shit-ton of hours. I know it will look amazing when you're finished.

The first thing you'll be doing on the bottom of the playfield is zig-zagging and stapling in the new ground wire for all the lamp sockets.

For new hardware you should go to your local Tacoma Screw Products and get a bag of 100 of the #6 by 1/2" long Phillips pan head and #6 by 3/8" long Phillips pan head sheet metal screws.

The half inch long screws hold the assemblies onto the playfield and the 3/8" long screws are for the lamp sockets. Some assemblies (like flippers) are held to the playfield by # 8 screws.

When I did a playfield restore for a friend's Gottlieb Haunted House pinball, I went to my local Tacoma Screw for bags of the screws. I paid about $1.50 for a bag of 100. I went through about two bags of the 6 x 1/2", two of the 6 x 3/8, and one of the 8 x 1/2.

Why not reuse the original screws?

Made a tiny bit of progress tonight and got stuck as I need some parts to continue onward. Damn it Lowes, why aren't you open 24 hrs like WalMart?

Progress so far, kind of hard to see

Ran into a snag, and even though I would like to say it is the first snag I can't because it isn't. Ordered these beautiful posts from Marco and they are 1/16" short. The part number matches C-952 all of the books and manuals that I have access too. I figured that putting a lock / split washer on top of the posts would make up for the 1/16th and keep the screws from digging into the posts.

Still hard to see the progress, but it is there and coming along nicely. Damn cleaning of reused parts seems to be taking the most time to do.

Roughly another 6 hours logged

Looks like your making progress. I have a mostly p populated playfield, unfortunately the plastics, bumper caps and rollover buttons are sold. Of course its te parts you mentioned you might need. Let me know if you're missing anything.

Thx Brother, but I have 3 mostly complete play fields to scab parts from. I am looking to go with new pop bumper bodies and I have a very nice set of caps with almost no wear. The kids got me a new set of plastics a couple of years ago, along with new hot stamped drop targets. Yes, a couple of years ago. I have at least 4 good clean roll over buttons. Might actually get to putting them in today after I hopefully get done installing posts and the tube ramp.
