So about 6 months ago I got a free non-working Rowe BC-25 changer from a local reseller here. (Hence, my wanted post looking for some changer parts.)
Despite the issues, the cabinet was professionally restored. Completely powdercoated, new decals, looked fantastic.
A month ago, I got a PM from another KLOVer here that had two non-working Rowe changers he wanted to get rid of. So, I picked them up, hoping I could get some parts needed to finish my changer.
Both changers look like they lived long lives near the ocean, the cabinets were toast. Once was a BC-30, the other was a BC-3500. As I started stripping them out, I realized that instead of just getting the parts and getting my changer up, I figured why not transplant the BC-3500 parts into my cabinet!
Surprisingly, despite the cabinet differences, there were many similarities. The dual-staker fit without issue. The power supply fit without issue, for the most part.
The hopper/bucket mech was exactly the same, just different plug.
The biggest issues I've run into so far are:
No hole for the CCC cables to the bottom part of the cabinet. Had to cut my own hole.
The 'ramp'/catch on the new power supply was too large, and hit the hopper mech, and had to be trimmed down.
There's no hole between the upper/lower cabinets for coins to fall through.
Have to jury-rig a mount for the CCC in the bottom cabinet half.
I still have a little work to do (got to attach the trimmed coin catch onto the power supply, and figure out why the stacker's not operating properly), but I'm happy to say that .. it can be done.
Would I do it again? Probably not.
But, it was something to try.
