So I had my Tempest back in the living room, fired it up and it worked with no problems. Got through two games and then took a phone call from dad. While on the phone, and with the game in attract mode, it suddenly failed. The screen is upside down and backwards, and the speakers are throwing off static. WTF just happened? See attached picture.

Did turning it off for 5 minutes then turning it back on fix the issue?

Nope. Now, when I turn it on, the screen doesn't come up, there is an intermittent clicking noice coming fromthe game, and the start buttons blink onm and off. So, it's worse!

My heavy barrel game did the same thing. I located the clicking sound and it was comming from the power supply.

It would play for about an hour then video shrunk to about 3 in circle. It would not come on if you waited 5 min but if you waited about an hour you could play for 5 min.

My problem was on the +12 volt line.

Pull the edge connectors off the boards and reseat them and also carefully pull off the PCB\AUX cable from the two boards and reseat that too. See if that helps..

Oh yes, welcome to the fragile world of Tempest ;)
