And I'm Back: A Red Tent, a PC10, and a side of Hantavirus

MAIL CALL!!!! Some maintenance, and some lipstick for the piggies.

Looks like this weekend is going to be a lot of fun! I should be able to get the PS for the PC-10 and Red Tent recapped, and the two PC10 monitors. The replacement resistors for the Sanyos won't be here until Saturday.

I also sent one of the basket case red tent chassis off to Chad yesterday and I am going to continue to attempt to repair the one with HV issues for now.

Ain't nuthin, but a cap kit party! The PC and chassis for the PC-10 are a great example of why just looking at caps isn't a great diagnostic method. Almost all of the larger caps on the PS were corroded and multiple caps on the PS and chassis just pulled out of their legs. None showed signs of swelling, bloating or damage.

Smooth sailing on the PS, hit a snag with my first Sanyo cap kit from Mike's as I did not read the spec sheet first and was just pulling and replacing caps. C201 I believe on the spec sheet had the wrong value and another cap was MIA.

With the second chassis I sorted the caps, checked them off, etc so I was able to get to the bottom of it. Now to dig through my trash can for an appropriate sized cap for C201.

When I opened up the PS for the Red Tent I found more grass/hay because of course I did. This stuff was literally everywhere in the cab. It's laughable that it is still turning up given how many hours I have spent cleaning this thing up.

Pallet was cleaner than the red tent. Love the progress, keep it up!

I'll post pictures tomorrow, but most of yesterday and today were control panel related. Breaking them down, cleaning the sticks, buttons, etc. I had already stripped the PC-10 CP and repainted it (no pics sadly). I managed to install the CPO on that today.

Yesterday I had started working on the red tent and got those stripped down, cleaned and painted. I will repopulate those tomorrow.

My goal is to have both of these as back together as possible tomorrow before kickoff. I will say, I don't recommend buying two basket case, 2 monitors each, 6 joysticks and 20 buttons combined cabs at once. Just watch that monies burn.

The thing to remember with projects like this is that when you have dry matter start dry. Don't make the situation worse, by adding liquids into the mix before you are ready to. You just create a muddy, nasty mess.

This was vacuum, scrape, vacuum, sand, vacuum, and finally multiple batches of peroxide plus baking soda with scraping and sanding in between.

I am beyond excited how that bottom it for the marquee box came out, I thought that I was going to have to cut a new piece for it.577762911_10163690228931271_4709030789111766414_n.jpg

Tis not the season to be picking up such dumpster fires. Had I had more time and space to work I would have done this differently, but needing to get it safe and usable I had to get the quick and dirty route.

I am terrible at filling, and painting. I wish I had more space where I could have laid this down on its sides and worked on it.

I also wish the temps were in my favor. In the spring, I'll strip it back down and either have somebody better at painting take the lead or I'll laminate it.

I used a very THICK oil based primer from Ace and it was a PIA to get sanded flat. It is what it is.

Are the nintendo buttons specific to Nintendo? Mikes Arcade sells "Nintendo buttons" but I would prefer not to spend $8 a button.

What CWilkson said, plus Nintendo buttons have different lengths, springs, and tops say compared to a Happ, etc. This particular set is for the Nintendo Red Tent so some non traditional colors in there.

I know the outdoor kitchen is looking a mess these days. The poor Blackstone, a friend used it and had no idea what they were doing. It really should just get tossed I have been out there sanding and stripping these cabs, and yet can't find 30 minutes to sand and re-season the Blackstone.

You really did transform the inside of that cabinet.
Didn't know about the peroxide and baking soda trick!

If you roll the paint on the nap and overall quality of the roller is critical.
That and the thing needs to dry for a week to harden up enough to sand out nicely.
Extra irritating if it is getting cold too I imagine.

I should also add that supporting Mike is a no brainer. He has done more for the Nintendo collecting community than just about anybody out there. He puts a lot of time and resources into sourcing and manufacturing Nintendo replacement parts. Without him we would really be lost.
