And I thought ops only mistreated pins

I'm a 90% pin guy and have seen some dirty and uncared for machines. I thought ops took better care of vids, but my recent Sega GT purchase has showed me vids get the shaft also.

The Super GT had mounds of dust everywhere in the cab. Every vent was completely clogged! The monitor wires easily had 1/4 inch of dust-like stuff on them. The monitor yoke was covered. The other pcbs were covered. When I used compressed air to try and clean it, I needed a mask because so much black crap blew into the air. Ok, I did not use the mask but probably should have.

The dust stuff was so strongly attached that the compressed air did not remove a lot if it and I needed to wipe parts down.

The monitor had a thick coating on the front. Cleaning that really improved the picture! :)

Well... I suspect this is more common than I originally expected for vids.

It is a testament to Sega's design team that this thing kept working!

That sounds like my two Rush the Rock machines. The fans were clogged with dust, the dust that wouldn't move with compressed air was probably attached by mold. Monitors are what puzzles me most--it's the main draw to your game, whether or not the player can see the screen, yet it's covered by a thick layer of dust that makes the game unplayable.

I was suprised at how bad some arcades treated their games. I pulled a working soul calibur III from an Aladdin's Castle a month or two ago and the switching ps was not bolted down and the jamma card had one screw in it. There was one solitary wire attached to the 1 player button so it was only working intermittently. I (mistakenly) held ops to a high professional standard. Oh and this one spray paints (with runs) their games.

Interesting guys... Surprised there were not a few more stories.

This weekend I will open up the second of the Super GT twin. I hope it is not worse than the first!

That sounds like 90% of the cabs I've picked up over the years...

;)

Think dust is bad... there is a certain Tempest buy posted on these forums that would make you throw up in your mouth.

Do a search for the worst thing you've pulled out of a machine

yeah... that one's in there too...

Also... There was a place called hellcade or something that had pics of people sitting in cabs like bathrooms, burning them... and all kinds of other retarded stuff
