The Story:

This trip took on a life of its own.

Started off as a trip to eastern Wisconsin to pick up a monitor from Steve (john rainbo) and I was also trying to work the Avalanche that Jeff (chips4sle) was recently selling (on ebay right now) into the picture.

Somehow Rick (rainman154) got wind of my impending drive over and asked me what I thought about hauling some cabinets for him to Mike (dethfactor) in Indiana. I said I would be willing to do it if someone contributed to my "gas fund" as it was an extra 100 miles or so east for me. Not to mention that more games meant borrowing or renting a trailer (I can stick a single in my SUV).

After a day or two I remembered a deal for a beautifully restored Centipede cabaret that I had never completed with another KLOV'r, Sam (Sam Zehr), from Nov 2009 (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=110014). Back then, I was making trips to Chicago roughly twice a year. As life would have it, I have not been there since this purchase. I sent Sam an email, after almost 6 months of no communication, and he replied that he still had the game and it was still mine to be picked up. Sam was kind enough to hold onto the game for me all that time. Last summer he had offered me a choice of a refund or holding on to it for pickup and I asked him to wait on me.

A night or two later, whilst perusing KLOV, I notice someone asking Brett (DPtwiz) if he can make a Baby Pac. He says if he had a cabinet to measure, he could. Hmmmm... I am going to be within 3 hours of him or so dropping off cabs at Mike's and I have a perfect candidate for him... a completely empty Baby Pac I picked up from Chris (chris25810) last fall. I send Brett a PM offering to leave it in Indiana for him to pick up. He says he would love to have it and can get it brought the rest of the way (by Seawolf) but then he tells me he has a cabinet built for Chris and other 2 cabinets already palleted for shipment to Michael (mlenardon) in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Brett suggests they may be willing to pay for me to come the extra distance myself and pick them up. We make a few phone calls to Chris and Michael and the deed is done. I will go the rest of the way to Ohio and pick up those 3 cabinets along with a Tempest cabaret for myself.

An epic KLOV adventure !!! Chapter 2

I compared Mike's address to Sam's and they only live 30 miles apart so I agreed to haul the games from Rick to Mike.

The Avalanche purchase didn't work out but since I was going to have to get a trailer anyway, I decided to hit up Bradley (flynn54321) to see if he was still interested in my Track and Field. I figured that would net me some extra $$$ for gas. He was interested... but he already had plans for the weekend so we couldn't meet up. He asked Larry (Franklin) to take it from me and we both agreed. The week before this, I had seen an auction on eBay for a Millipede cocktail that had an opening bid of $300 and went without a bid. That seller, Robin (ebay seller 'newtechgames') was also in Franklin, Wisconsin and, as it turns out, roughly a mile away from larry's place. I contacted him and we did a deal outside of eBay for the Millipede.

So, the deals were set, the dates and times basically established. Friday night I pick up the 3 cabinets from Rick to be delivered to Mike. Saturday morning I head out to Franklin, Wi to drop off Track and Field at Larry's place (for Bradley) and then hop over to Robin's to grab Millipede then on to Sam's to grab my Centipede ending up at Mike's to drop off the original 3 from Friday night.

Whew!

An epic KLOV adventure !!! Final Chapter?

Met up with Larry and he offered me some travel advice and use of his IPASS. How generous is that? (It's on the way back Larry!). Met Robin and encouraged him to join the KLOV forums. He's a super nice guy who's been in the business for 30+ years and has some nice stuff to offer. Got to Mike's and we talked and hung out for awhile.. showed me his games. My son Jeremy play a few of them while we talked about games and beer and such. He also gave me a 6 pack of a local brew (Gumballhead (American Pale Wheat Ale) from Three Floyds Brewing). Drank one last night and I must say... yum! Got to Brett's and I have to tell you, the guy has serious skills and he bleeds for his craft... no, really... he poked his finger while shrink-wrapping a cabinet and bled on it! Last, but not least, Chris. He was willing to take the 2 cabinets for Michael into his garage for shelter from the shitty snow storm I hit when I got 50 miles from home. My storage closes at 9 PM and it was nearly midnight so I had nowhere to put them. Thanks for stepping up like that!

So that's it. Good times. All great guys. A blessing to be able to meet them all and to be part of such a great group.

Wow, that's quite a trip and story.

I know from making similar runs (not quite as complicated), coordinating all of these people is no small task. Good job!

Tom

Wow! Great story. Fun to be had by all. Hope you broke even on all the incidentals along the way (extra gas, food, sleep....).

Dude that was awesome of you. You helped out a lot of guys (me included). I won't forget us loading up 3 cabs in the freezing cold at 10 PM! What a fun trip!
PS - That Centi cab looks AWESOME!!

Nice story! It always amazes me when people pull off trips like that. It must be fun figuring out how to order all the stops.

It takes a lot of cooperation and accommodation, that's for sure.
As I told Chris when I called Sunday night, enroute, and asked him to wait up for me... this is NOT a hobby of convenience.
;-)

Close enough. Everyone pitched in and was more than generous. Glad I could get my stuff done and help out a number of other people at the same time.

So you are the owner of the Centipede cabaret. I wanted to take that last year, but Sam said he was holding it for someone who had a deposit. If that fell through, this would have been my baby. :D Nice score by the way.

Yes... I finally picked it up. I'm sure she would have looked awesome at your place too. Thanks for not working him too hard to get it. I really, really love it. Already added a Multipede PCB (and adapter of course) to her.

Ill see you Saturday Allen to complete this adventure from my end. 12 more hours of driving from my end. Thanks for bring the cabs 2/3 of the way back for me. I will want to ensure there are more pics.

Michael

A few of things to note:
One Larry "Franklin" you are a polar bear of a guy!
Two Brett "DPtwiz" you have one epic mullet!
And three great story; I am sure it was fun as hell!

it's still 1987 here at my house. Expect to hear iron maiden playing while your here as well.

Well I have to say I just Allen you did a great job for everyone here. I just go back after driving down to Alejandromad's place to pickup 2 cabs made by DP Wiz. My journey was only 7 hours each way. It was good to see what you are working on and I wish I could have had more time to play some games.

Glimps of cabinets from DP Wiz brought back!

Here are a few shots of how great the cabinet work was from DP WIZ. The Tempest cabaret cab he did for you was gorgeous.
