Sorry I am so new to gaming and repairs, but I have a Ampliphone monitor in a game that appears to be playing blind and I need some help. I am not so technically inclined to do electrical stuff myself unless it's easy, so I either was hoping you guys could help me fix it OR tell me what I need to take to my repair guy so I'm not lugging this machine back and forth over and over again because I don't have the parts.

Upon reading things on this forum, it's apparent to me that the Ampliphone flybacks have problems, and that may be the first thing I need to replace. When the game fires up I don't hear any noises from the monitor nor do I see any dot or anything whatsoever (I think some have called it the dot of death, lol). NADA. Nothing. Looking at the HV board, the red light does come on on it. My HV board looks like this, can someone tell me if it's the original flyback?

What are the likely problems/fixes based on this info?

And if I need a new flyback, where can I get one and how much am I looking at?

Is there anything else I need to do to bulletproof a Ampliphone while I'm having this work done to it? WHat about the deflection board?

Thanks!

Hey and I thought the Wintron's/Lexel's never died ?!?!?! ;)

That's not the original flyback but a replacement. They're reputed to never break down....

Are you sure you do not hear ANY sounds near the monitor (listen on the neck-side). If the only problem is the HV missing you should still hear the "shatter" sound of the yoke coils.

It is best to follow a troubleshooting guide

Try the link in my signature and have a look :)

Thanks, but I was also trying to find out what I have.. the info that I do indeed have a replacement flyback was something I wanted to know.

I will listen to the monitor and see if there is any noise whatsoever and report back.

Thanks!

The red LED is the spot killer. It means the monitor is not getting a signal. Usually this means that there is something wrong with the game board, or even the connection to the monitor. I've seen several cases where the pins push out of the molex plugs.

Are you getting high voltage? Can you hear the game playing? What game is this?

I've seen the game and its playing blind so the game board is def working. That would be a nice easy fix if its just the molex pins.

Hey why exactly 42 ? :D

If it's Star Wars, did you try to set it to the test mode ? Test mode may display something.

Worked on an (another !) upright the othere day. All vectors were going crazy. Switched to test mode and got a pretty OK screen with an indication of a bad VRAM. Reseated and worked fine.

The website data sheet says that it can handle that amount (42) then they must open up and get hot etc

You posted a great picture of the High voltage board. Can you take pictures of the rest of the set up. Deflection board. Ect.
One of these days I'd like to find all the stuff to put a Amp. monitor back into my starwars upright. It was replaced with a K6100.
