They say the Amplifone 19" CRT, IE: the M48AAW00X is Medium resolution (Hence the M Prefix)

Does that mean the Amplifone 25", IE: the A63AAX00X is a Standard resolution? (A Prefix)

I have never seen a monitor 25" or above listed as medium resolution. I think at that size the density is the same for medium and standard resolution.

Its been so long since I've had to dig into this but for some reason a dot pitch of .89 is ringing a bell for me as far as them 25" amps go. I'm pretty sure thats considered a std res tube.

I don't think the 'A' and 'M' prefix have anything to do with the resolution. For one, referring to the resolution as standard or medium is an arcade gaming thing. The rest of the world uses CGA and EGA to describe the resolution. Also, I took the time to look up which tube the manuals call for for the K7000 and the 5500 monitors:

K7000 - A63ADG25X
5515 - A63ABG20X

I am not familiar with how to read the entire code but the few parts of the code I do know how to read are essesntially the same between the two tubes.

Thank you
As I suspected

The Sencore CR70 manual has a few pages about the anatomy of CRT tube numbers, including the following tidbit:

"The WTDS number consists of six groups of symbols. The first symbol defines the application of the tube. This symbol is always a single letter; either an A for picture tubes or an M for monitor tubes."

Whilst on the subject an uneducated question.

Everyone seems to prefer Amps ...med resolution.

what are the differences between a Wg6100 19 inch when compared to an amp 19 inch
and are the tubes of amps all made by RAULAND.

can you really see a difference and what are they?

The vectors look sharper because the pixel density is greater. Put in other words, the medium res chassis draws faster and has more points to draw on. This leads to a sharper picture as long as the chassis and picture source (game board) are designed to support the greater density and speed.

If the speed from the game board is not in sync with the monitor chassis you end up with oddly redrawn pictures that overlap in a raster monitor due to the fact that it is constantly redrawing the picture.

reason for asking.
i want to compare star wars on 19inch wg6100 which looks great!
comparing to 19 inch amp.
sorry to hijack thread...but is interesting to see how different they are.

I have put a medium res chassis/yoke combo on a standard res tube (19", raster monitor) and it wasn't as sharp. The edges of lines were blurry. I have to assume that an Amplifone is slightly sharper than a 6100.

waiting for HV to return from repair and then i will compare.
So really no such thing as a vector tube?
is it more about how fast and tight accurate the the dot is represented by the gun on the phosphate?

I must read more!
