I am rebuilding a beige Amplifone HV board with Penn Trans HVT installed. Looking over the board as it is now, I see a couple of things that seemed odd (even wrong). This board supposedly was in a working Star Wars a couple of years ago, but I have not personally powered it up yet.
First, C1 & C4 are currently 470uF 35v caps and C2 & C3 are 470uF 50v caps. This is way different then what is normally seen on these boards. Normally, C1 & C2 are 1000uF and C3 & C4 are 220uF (upgraded from 100uF). Has anyone else seen this or is this something that was probably hacked?
Also instead of a BU406D at Q3, this board currently has a BU409 installed which I think is problematic since this doesn't have a built-in diode and no external diode mounted. Comments/concerns?
I plan to install a new cap kit, the proper BU406D, and fresh transistors along with the suggested modifications, but wanted to see if I am missing something with these unexpected differences. Thanks.
