Amplifone B+ missing

Ok I'm purchasing some parts....one question. The BU406D cross references as part number NTE379 which I think Fry's Electronics carries. However, BU406 cross references to the same thing and the Amp FAQ says not to use BU406....do you know if the NTE379 is ok then? Or should I steer clear of it and try to find an actual BU406D somewhere?

This link confirms the NTE379 replaces the BU406, therefore would not be compat.

I replaced a faulty BU406D in my Star Wars with a generic BU406 replacement, and used an external diode to complete the fix. Mine has been working fine for almost a year now with 3 months "on location" with no problems. I'm also using the Wintron replacement transformer.

They are talking about using a 1N4006 diode
