Amplifone 19" & 25" Interest List

There are a lot of Amp snobs on here, true. There are also a lot of really cheap people on here, and when these suckers come back costing $599 (which they probably will) people are gonna drop like flies.

I honestly feel bad for Dave, and Darren, and Rikitiki and the rest of the guys that provide us invaluable services (no matter the time frame it may happen in) lmao. Sorry just killed two birds with one stone on that remark ;)
People are always quick to say I do and when they finally get to the alter it's "I don't". You friggin cheese dicks - do you not realize what this does for future possibilities from them? More importantly what a terrible hardship you may/can put on these guys by doing this? These guys aren't big companies backed by big money.

If you going to say I do then be a MAN and hold true to your word.

And as far as the Amps cost - does anyone really think $600 for a brand new full blown Amp is that expensive? Geebus cripes -to me that's completely reasonable and honestly on the cheap side IMHO. Guess I've bought, fixed and sold enough vector stuff to know this old crap brings a premium. I'd much rather have a new fresh setup.

I think $599 would be a fair price.

What it comes down to is, this is all a hobby for the buyers, but it's a business for the sellers. So the buyers don't take it too seriously, whereas it's bread and water for the sellers. So yeah, a lot of times buyers say one thing and do another, because to them it's just a source of entertainment to play and build these... and not that big of a deal. The people who sell this stuff get left holding the bag.

Even I could draw up those amp boards (with Spaeths improvement ideas) and get the gerber files if to you if you wanted to get some quotes from board houses. I am just hesitant because of that stupid tube socket, I'd have to draw the footprint up from scratch which is a pain. I don't have an amplifone myself, so I would have to rely on pics and measurments from others.

This has been done. :)

Yes, I believe I commented on that in the paragraph before the one you quoted. I would like to know what became of it, and was it for both amplifone boards or just one? I think it was the deflection board right?

I had already drawn out the Amplifone HV board tracks, including the resistor and diode mods.
I handed the project to Dave to complete, for everyone to enjoy the benefits, after he contacted me.

There are more amp snobs on here than that. There would be a small tidal wave of 6100 availability if these get done. ;)

From a PM that Dave sent me on 11/7:

"i have 19" 6100 tubes, too. They only come with yoke, though. I don't sell these without the yokes. They're also $250 each plus $15 shipping."

And handbuilt Bentleys are absolutely priced fairly at $200k. It's not a question of fairness or price. Its a question about whether or not people are going to pay $600 for a monitor.

Instead of a dreaded pre-sale, I'd like to generate an "interest list" for the following REPRODUCTION items:

19" Amplifone monitor (tube, deflection yoke, HV board, deflection board, etc) - ready to plug and play.

25" Amplifone monitor (tube, deflection yoke, HV board, deflection board, etc) - ready to plug and play.

19" Amplifone tube no yoke

25" Amplifone tube no yoke

19" Amplifone tube with yoke

25" Amplifone tube with yoke

19"/25" Amplifone deflection yoke

HV Board (works with both tube sizes)

Deflection board (works with both tube sizes)

I need a show of hands so I can get an estimate of how many people really want these things.

EDIT: I need to know EXACTLY what you want from the above list.

At this point in time, I will not commit to pricing or time frames. Just know that I am working on them. The tubes are medium resolution, HV boards are slightly "upgraded", deflection boards are identical. All parts are 100% OEM compatible, meaning you can use them with original parts - swap 'em in and out just like they were original parts.

All I need is a show of hands, no prepay, no deposit, nothing else at all. Post to the thread, PM me or email me. I'll add your name to the lists.

Thanks for looking.

Dave

Is there any update on when these might be ready to ship?

A better question is there any update on if this project is financially viable? The other question I have is - if tubes that would be within spec for this purpose could be made in Korea or wherever, how would the quality compare to the OEM stuff?

I would be interested in getting one complete backup monitor for each of my working games - tempest, asteriods, star wars, reb baron. would one of these work for my star trek too?

Match the pins and go and get any 90 degree medium res crt from any manufacturer and you have a 'new' amp tube. Hell, get a standard res crt from any manufacturer and you could have a 'new' amp tube (my Gravitar had a factory standard res amp setup). Buy any number of medium res/svga Tovis monitors with a 90 degree tube and tear out the crt and use it.. *poof*.. a brand new 'reproduction' amp crt. the rare part is the yoke, but you could probably match that as well off the shelf... not sure if anyone has bothered to even try/look much in the past. But that is all this is, and all that you will get.. if and when the proverbial hell hath frozen over.
Because if anyone thinks that a guy that cannot find time to even box something 'in stock' up and ship is going to find time to sit and converge a pile of crt's, then you have a long wait ahead of you and obviously have not been reading any number of other threads..
