American pickers tv show.

I saw the trailer for next Monday's show and it looks like they were rummaging through the junk at the Texas Pinball Festival swap meet and then went inside to talk to a couple of the organizers. Which would explain the film crew that was out there. I thought they were just the local news :(.

Hell, that wasn't even a real Ms. Pac-Man cabinet.....it was a Pac-Man cabinet.

Edward

Not to mention the guy that bought it was Nathan Barnatt (Keith Apicary). He knew that shit wasn't worth the money, but it made a good story for the camera. I thought it was funny when he brought up the fact it was vinyl instead of stencils.

As far as Danielle goes..you guys do realise she is married and has had a couple kids.she like in her late 30s or early 40s.

There's more info on that one in this thread:

Seems the guy didn't actually buy it from them.

There was a pin recently on the Storage Wars show, but I can't recall what it was.

Ever seen auction hunters? Dudes got a trailer from a shipping yard and found a Ms. Pacman. They take it to an arcade guy and he was like I'll give you $75. So they fix it up basically by sanding the sides and adding the vinyl repo sideart then put it on craigslist for either $1200 or $1000. Some dude shows up and actually says "oh it's vinyl, I was looking for the actual stenciled artwork" and he still paid like $1000 for it!

If you know that the artwork is stenciled on originals, then you should know that a repo and ms pacman itself is not worth $1000.

People are dumb and like to prove it on tv

I don't think the picks on the show could be all that profitable. They drive to another part of the country, and have to pay for gas, food and lodging. Then you have the van that never seems to get full - where does all the stuff they pick go while they are still picking? They must offload the stuff into another truck which actually takes it back to Iowa.

The show is making the money, not the picking.

These guys are for real. They have operated 30 miles from my house for quite a while.

It's quite cool to see a couple of local guys make it big antiquing. I'd love to know the story behind how they made it big. They are entertaining, and I am sure there's a bit of theater in there too. They do have a couple of shops. I imagine after the success of the first season they are making good money now. I bet the items they pick up on camera bring a little more. Knowing that your item could be tied to a TV show probably doesn't hurt build value in items.

My 9 year old loves the show.. Its one of the few things we can watch together. She thinks Frank is the funniest dude on TV.

Today I will make it a goal to use the term "Roached out" as much as possible.

that is what I say and they never handle the stuff very well, kinda toss it around, dipsticks.

I want to love this show, but the skinny guy is so douchey that it's sometimes painful to watch. Wish they'd do an episode that showed what stuff they picked sold for, even if they lost money on it.

They never buy the stuff. Hell half the stuff they probably bring with them and plant in the barn. It's the HISTORY channel. The show is a vehicle to tell the history of weird-ass items.

The pin on Storage Wars the other night was a Bally Black Pyramid. What's sad is I saw it as soon as the camera panned over to it. Surprisingly they didn't inflate the price too much as they valued it at $400. Of course that was probably their "non-working" value;).

Storage Wars seems a bit more legit. You can't really fake buy something at an auction. Although obviously the bidding is highly edited.

Pawn Stars may be fake as shit, but it's entertaining. I keep remembering the guy that wanted to sell his EM gun game for like...1,000 bucks. The thing needed serious cosmetic TLC. Then there was the guy that charged them up the ass to fix...IIRC...an odds and evens?

I'd be surprised if American Restorations isn't popular with people in this hobby. I mean, it's pretty much what most of us do when we're not playing the games.

I like this show, it definitly seems more legit. I watched some arcade auctions on youtube in the past and the auctioneers were the same as on Storage Wars.

I don't know, but I've always had the feeling that Frank & Mike would double team Danielle in a heartbeat. From the looks (and sounds) of Mike, I don't think it'd be the first time he ''crossed swords'' with another man.

I actually got to go "pick" the site from last week's show. Most of the pins were junk, but they missed a Whirlwind in great condition. I was able to pick it up for $175.00. When I got it home and plugged it in, it actually worked. This one is staying in our gameroom.

Sounds like they forgot to do their research. :p

Pics or it didn't happen :)

I think most of us like American Resto. That's why you don't hear much about it because no one is talking sh!t ;)
