Hey dudes,

Just something I found interesting... I've been paying more attention to chips in my game boards since I started messing with repair and I've been surprised when I see both AMD and Intel chips on the same board. Funny that two of todays bigger competitors would have been used together back in the day. Is this a super common thing? Any insight into why companies would use chips from different manufactures? Thoughts? Comments? Just looking to learn!

All these companies were just trying to make everything as cheaply as possible, so I'm sure they were just buying chips from whoever could make a shitload of each certain chip for cheap

Having them all the same brand does not really matter. When I pick out chips for my boards, I look for the chip that meets the specs I want, at the price point I want, is in stock, and a brand that has a good reputation.

Now if the chips are designed to work together, like a CPU and the south bridge, then it makes sense and is less hassle. But on common generic stuff, meh.
