Am I the only person who prefers Daytona over Rush?

You're not alone...2-player Daytona USA was my video game grail. The only other racing series that comes close for me is Hydro Thunder.

If you're into realistic, serious racing, Sega rules and Daytona will always be the gold standard. Rush is fun, whacky racing with hidden shortcuts. So is Cruisin' USA and many others.

Its been so long since I've played either Rush or Cruisin' USA, so I'm not sure that's a good comparison. My big problem with Daytona USA (and probably of all racing games) is that I am too tall to comfortably play them. Especially Daytona, I don't have enough room to use the pedals properly without my knee banging on the bottom of the dashboard.

I'm a big fan of Sega driving games. OR2 would be my next grail but would have to get rid of my deluxe cab to make room. I'm sad because D&B never gave OR2 a worthy shot at their place. I grew up playing alot of cruising USA since it was at my local comic book store until I found SSGT. Rush never did it for me. Maybe I need to give it another shot.

Daytona owns all....I just say that because I've been wanting one since I was a kid and now I finally have them.

I do believe Sega racing games are the best. I use to love crusin USA...like with a passion, but now I think replay value is just better with Sega games. Rush is cool too, but it can't compare to the fun challanging your buddy on Daytona offers.

In regard to what Tripredacus said: I have two different twin sets of Daytona. One set is actually two "single" sit down units. The other is a "twin cab" sit down unit. I like the way the twin cab looks a lot better, but I actually have leg room on the two single cabs that are linked up. I'm a big dude at 6' 5"

Daytona may be the most realistic, but for pure fun none of them beats RUSH2049 or Hydro Thunder imo.

At one time I owned 8 linked Daytonas in my garage from an arcade in Scottsdale that closed. Heck I bought all of his racers and kept them for awhile and that's how I came to arrive at my opinion of racing games.

Worst ever? Vapor TRX. I dumped that as quick as I could.

You all speak blasphemy! SanFrancisco RUSH: The ROCK - Alcatraz Edition is easily 3x better than Daytona USA. I mean don't get me wrong, Daytona USA is a blast, but come on guys, have you actually ever played SanFrancisco RUSH: The ROCK - Alcatraz Edition?

It has 7 tracks and 12 cars to choose from, competitive AI, a killer soundtrack, a 5 speaker sound system including a woofer in the seat that thumps to the BASS and re-creates collision and explosions with a BOOM, Force-feedback steering, and I dare say aside from the exaggerated gravity (which makes for some great air-time), and the movie style explosions that happen when you collide too hard, it's more realistic than Daytona USA. The shortcuts, mirror mode, ability to race with out drones, hidden giant half pipe, hidden underground stunt park and more are just icing on the cake!

I love RUSH's humor; "The play it again!" song that happens when it's game over, the "What's your name?" samba that plays when you get a fast time, and all the phrases like "It's Dangerous!", "All that and a bag of chips!", "Don't say I didn't warn you!", and more that it shouts out at different points in the game. Plus, it's made by Atari Games! What's not to love? You can also link up to 8 cabs just like Daytona USA (I have two linked).

Daytona USA is not very realistic, a crash just makes you flip and your back in the race. I think the fun and catchy soundtrack of Daytona USA is it's claim to fame otherwise, Daytona USA 2 would have a large following because it's just as fun and has a Killer soundtrack sung by Crush 40 but it's not the quirky Japanese/engrish "Daaaaayyyyttttoooonnnnaaaaaa Let's Go Away!.... lets go away.." that everyone has come to love.

I have played them all, Oh and I also love 18 Wheel Pro Trucker and Crazy Taxi. Sega games get me every time. Every Rush seems lacking. Very generic.

To each their own. SanFrancisco RUSH: The Rock -Alcatraz Edition is what got me into the arcade hobby. I really just wanted it because it's my favorite video game period and the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation versions are just bastardized clones but after the initial shock of "I have a commercial arcade game in my house!" I decided to get more of the games I loved from my childhood. You could say RUSH made me the man I am today ha!

It's all in good fun, I would love to get some SEGA racers too like Daytona USA, SEGA Touring Car, and SEGA Rally Championship, but only after I get my hands on RUSH 2049. :)

Both great racers but RUSH > DAYTONA for me.

(Anyone bringing a "Cruisin'" game into this thread should be banned or ignored from any future racer discussion.)

Oops, cause that's what I am about to do. Cruisin' USA (not sequels) and Pole Position are the only drivers I really care for. I used to enjoy Need For Speed Underground quite a bit. I even had the card for it. Though I am not a driver fan, I would like a sit down Pole Position but bringing one of those beasts down into my basement would be about as much fun as removing the piano that was left down there when we bought the house. No thanks.

...and 2049 crushes everything. Ever.

I'm one of the very few people who did not get into Daytona BITD. I loved some of Sega's racing games and have a very soft spot for AM2's cheesy 90's presentation. Hell, Virtua Racing is one of my all time favorite arcade racing games (and if money and space were infinite, I'd run a sitdown twin in my collection), but Daytona was always just kind of "enh".

This is a Daytona appreciation thread though, so don't mind me. Maybe we can all agree that Cruisin was really cheesy/goofy.

+1!!!!

I always loved Daytona and Hydro Thunder is also a fun time. I've played the Rush games and the Cruisin' ones, but I got bored with them rather quickly. Don't get me wrong, they are fun, but just for not too long. I never felt that way with Daytona. Even though Hydro Thunder is repetitive, I never got bored with it, which I don't understand but don't complain!
