Am I living under a rock. The economy is still in the sewer. So I would think if you were selling a high dollar pin, say for $3600 that you would be willing to accept a credit card payment through paypal. I guess not, everyone especially craigslist ads want cash. I bought two pins and a arcade machine this summer, paid cash, now I am tapped out, but more than willing to use my credit card to get another pin. Just doesnt seem to be happening, unless you buy one on Ebay, no luck ther finding one close to home. What am I missing klovers, exorbant fees, etc?

With cash, the buyer cant scam the seller, for example, open a fraudulent dispute to get money back, do a chargeback, etc. Cash is safer for the seller. I only accept cash for arcade games unless they were purchased on eBay or need to be shipped.

I think people are just leery of getting scamed or duped somehow - especially on craigslist.

The problem with PayPal is that while it works well to protect a buyer in most cases, it leaves a seller open to fraud. With the economy tanking, it's getting worse.

Rule of thumb with PayPal (or eBay) is to never sell and accept PayPal for any dollar amount you are not comfortable with losing. My personal max is $150.00. Anything more than that I wont deal with PayPal.

For a Pin @ $3,500 no one in their right mind would accept PayPal. Without ONLINE proof of delivery by a PayPal employee they would lose their shirt *if* a dishonest person picks up the game and then claims they never received it.

even with all the very legitimate points made I can still add more. Paypal only allows so many free credit card transactions a year unless you have a paid account. I know I can only accept a small number of credit card transactions each year before they want me to sign up for a pay account. Then there is the transferring of funds. Personally I want my money in my bank account not my paypal account. I know this can be done but once again it depends on your paypal account. If I want funds out of my current paypal account I need to contact paypal and basically request a check. I think it takes 7-10 days for them to process this then send a check. Of course I'm not sure why they have to do it this way since I have a bank account attached to the paypal account but they assure me this is the only way unless I upgrade my account and pay them more money. BTW I don't recall but it's possible they may also charge me a fee to write me the check. Bottom line is paypal can be very inconvenient as well as unsafe for sellers.

I understand now, even though I am an honest guy just looking for another pin. What has this world come, too. I guess, I will have to hope I can find one on Ebay from a private seller. Dont like retail prices and sales tax. Thanks, guys.

One word: Chargebacks. There is a trend right now with people buying things using paypal and then disputing the charge, and Paypal has a reputation of always siding with the buyer.. Which leaves the seller w/o his item or cash.

I would consider Paypal for something I had only if it was a "gift" payment to me that couldn't be disputed. But I may even be wrong with thinking that's a safe way...

it will become harder to find a seller willing to take PayPal in 2011. I have a paid account and do thousands of transactions a year and I am being told I will recieve a 1099 at the end of the year from the IRS in 2011. So I will be limiting my PayPal use substantially.

wtf is wrong with people?!

Sorry to be a dick, but if you can't afford to BUY a game and are putting it on credit - you're a gigantic risk for everyone involved and you sit squarely in the "I might jack you via chargeback" category. You're a liability for yourself, your family, your credit card company, and the seller. I wouldn't sell to you.

As long as you're putting your livelihood in jeopardy for a game, you might as well pull out a cash advance on that credit card and pay some more interest on it.

ebay charges a huge fee to sellers then double dips you when you accept paypal. a 3600 transaction via paypal they are gonna keep a slice of that as well. Then all the buyer has to do is put in a complaint and they will HOLD all 3600 until they decide who is right. That person could be the other person and then the seller is out 3600 and a pin....

ebay and paypal both suck....

I had 19 fraudulent transactions for US POSTAGE out of the czech republic russia ukraine etc. Took paypal a week to figure it out. They refunded my money (btw had 19 over drafts on my bank too at 36 dollars a pop). Then the braindead ppl at paypal decide to re-submut the fraudulent charges all over again. Im like WTF and they are like well we are not a bank and our bank tries to put everything through twice. Even fraud I guess...

rant over ... meh on paypal....

PayPus sucks big time and the sooner they are legislated out of business the happier I (and no doubt many others) will be.

PP aids scammers with their idiotic rules and how any government can allow them to handle peoples money escapes me?

Slow down ballytablewiz , you are being a dick. I, guess your my financial advisor. How am I putting my livelihood at risk and my family by wanting to use my personal credit card to purchase a pin. You think everyone whos bought a new in box pin paid cash or chose to use their credit card are now living in a cardboard box. Next time you chime in on someones thread keep your smart ass comments to your self.

With your logic nobody should ever use a credit card.
