Well, my new Tron LE is having a serious opto problem, for some reason the opto is reading for no reason when the game is playing (randomly) and when you just flip the flipper with no ball in the playfield.

Took it apart and there is no simple alignment, and actually it looks like it is aligned fine and will read fine when nothing else is going.

Hey, I just waited 6 months and dropped a shitload of cash and put 30 games on my Stern before it shit out. At least I got 30 games on it and it wasn't dead out of the box.

Me and a friend went through it for a while, so it's not a straight forward fix, I've been working on them long enough to do simple fixes like adjusting optos and such.. so before you say anything, check it out for yourself. I wish it was something easy.

One thing I did notice is that the metal area going into the disc seems a little bent, perhaps the ball slinging around in there bent it, I used a pair of pliers to adjust it and it worked for about 2 balls, then back to errors. Not sure if it really made a difference or not.. I think not.

Frustrating.

I love Stern!!

Yeah, they'll help you out....they'll even send you new parts if it's just busted.

I had a few issues with my Batman.
-Translight had bad printing
-Light ballast was buzzing
-Issue w/ the Joker motor.

They sent me all of those things, no charge.

On my Avatar LE, the Link lock mech wasn't assembled correctly (missing a part) and basically fell apart into the cabinet. They sent me all the parts and now it's fine.

It blows, it's disappointing....but they'll hook you up.

My experience with the stern optos is they plug onto a small board nearby under the playfield. You can reseat the tiny white connector and see if it helps. Usually this is temporary. I generally reflow the solder on the pins the connector plugs onto and that eliminates the problem from returning.

LTG :)

I'm back in business. A combination of installing a new Opto board and two new opto's in the disc entry area fixed it.

The opto set they sent me was a little different, the left opto was more recessed, perhaps this is a good thing.

Crossing my fingers that this crap is over with and I can focus on playing it!

What an absolute kick ass game! Having fun once again and it feels good.

Its funny how something like (an unplayable NIB pin) this can cause a totally different outlook on the game, when it was erroring I was ready to just sell it and get rid of it.. When the ball goes in play and it just throws error after error, it just seems like the game overall is horrible and it made me bitter. Once it was fixed, it was like a magical transition to the incredible pin I think it is. LOL.

This is the problem with such a low production item unfortunately. Its not like in the 80's/90's where they made so many more of one game where they could make changes on the line to solve problems with later runs. You sir are considered an early adopter :)

I think it's funny as pinheads, the first thing we think about is to dive right in and fix the problem ourselves (on a NIB purchase)

In reality it should be of the standard consumer mentality..call the manufacture and bitch.

Its even worse when you provide technical services for a living, calling a helpdesk is difficult to do when you are the one that normally leads the troubleshooting effort :)

I got mine (#141), mine also has the opto issue, I really think it might be an alignment issue, but I haven't had a chance to take a look yet. Hopefully tonight I will.
