A video game store chain I work with (I have sold them arcade games and fix their games from time to time) has a Hang On at a store a couple hours away. They are wanting to bring it down here, and in exchange I'd give them $75 in credit towards repairs (including parts and labor). Obviously sight unseen but the cab looks decent from the photos I have seen. Their story is that it hit a "power surge" and stopped working.

I think the obvious answer is "yeah, sure", but figured I'd get some advice, might as well. If it did indeed hit a power surge, is the whole game fucked, or just the power supply perhaps? What if its board related? I havent given them a solid answer yet but pretty much showed my interest. What do you think?

Could be as simple as a dead fuse....wait a second; that's what they all say! :)

i have a complete board set that a guy pulled from a working game...i have no way to test it, but he said it does work...let me know if you happen to need it...

Since it's a Sega game, you've got to know that it has bad ram. All Sega games get bad ram. They all break. Sucks. I think I've had one hang on that worked right, and about 5 that had lines and shit in the screen.

I have not messed with hang on in a long time, but I think it can have throttle cable/return spring issues. So you might want to check to see if those parts are available before you commit to it..

I must be one of the lucky ones, my Hang-on mini has been very nice to me, never a bad RAM. None of my other Sega boards get RAM faults...my experience and two cents...

Now the Hang-On vs. Super Hang-On debate...I can't figure what side I'm on with that...
The debut game vs. a longer game, solid cab vs. yellowed plastics. Hard choice if I had both available.

I asked for more info, and am told it hit a surge during a thunderstorm. They had someone look at it (don't know who) and were told that everything inside was fried. They say the game was working properly before this happened.

Just wondering at this point if its even possible that everything is fried. I'm thinking it had to stop at the power supply but I really don't know. I do know I need to give them an answer pretty quick.

I have the power supply, complete harness, and working boardset for a Super Hang On. Was working when pulled about a year ago. Basically just set this up in a cab and it's ready to go. Let me know if you can spare $100 for it. Shipping not included.

Mine now. Looks like the boardset and monitor are toast. Power Supply checks out. Board is getting 5v and the LED lights up, but nothing at least as far as sound goes other than very faint garbage with the volume up all the way. Nanao monitor keeps blowing the little fuse near the B+ filter. Bad flyback? I know thats typical with the G07's, same story with this one? Or are these monitors just crap? I do have a working WG4900 I could hack in.

CP looks good, no broken cables, pots are turning, no stripped gears ect... There was a huge mud dobber in it. Looks like its missing the original plexi for the gauges. The trim is there but the plexi is plain black.

Any advice on where to go from here?
