researching some replacement boards, I notice that several of them are made by both companies. The ones I that caught my eye are the soloniod drivers for the SS bally/sterns. Rottendog makes a modernized redesign of the original, and Alltek makes a (bulletproof) replacement.

is there really so much difference in the boards to justify the price difference? The Rottendog is almost half the price of the Alltek. I used the Alltek Mpus, but I believe Im going to use rottendog drivers

I'll sell you an original tested on a Bally Brown Box for $65 shipped.
I thought about getting a repaired board. I just ordered 2 rottendog boards from arcadeshop at 85 apiece. I may take yours as well and keep one of the rottendogs as a backup. PM sent

I do not have personal experience with Rottendog, but I know alltek boards seem bulletproof and I have never heard bad about them. I heard that rottendog boards used to be crap, but since then I hear they now make a better board than they used to. Personally, unless you are missing a board or it has acid damage (a solenoid driver shouldn't) then I vote at least attempt repair before buying new.

well, the board looks perfect, but im having a few problems with it. However, I have a Space Invaders pin in the wings that Im restoring next, and it IS missing the solinoid board, so I have to buy 1 anyway. My original plan was to buy 2, put one in the star trek, repair the board I took out for the SI, and put the other new board on the shelf for backup/future use

I just put in a WAV095 board to a Bally and it works great. Board seems well designed (but seriously, WTF do I know...I looked nice and was shiny). My pin did acquire speaker 'hum' with the Rotten dog board. But that could be anything I suppose. May have happened if I had just repaired the old board as well.

I've been "told" that Alltek boards are better-engineered than Rottendog. However, I have used both and not had any problems. So my personal experience does not indicate one is inferior to the other.

We use Rottendog boards in all the games we fix. We will repair old boards but in a hurry we use Rottendog, and I actually had my first issue with one 2 days ago but with no questions asked he sent out a new one before the other one even had a ups sticker on it to get shipped back.

I run Rottendog's Power supplies/Driver PCB/Pop bumper pcbs in all my Gottlieb's-Black Hole,Mars, Caveman, and Hollywood heat(driver pcb). Have not had any problems. Although I am looking at the Alltek lamp driver pcb so I can put LEDs in my Orbitor 1.
