I've got an Allied Leisure Robot arcade cabinet (Pong-style, up to 4 players, volleyball net in the middle with an arcing shot). It seems to be fairly rare, so documentation is thin. I'm hoping for pointers on where to start with the display of the score on the screen.

Symptom

  • Gameplay is working as expected for the most part (I still need to fine-tune ball speed and paddle travel limits).
  • Scoring display is the issue:
    • At first I thought it wasn't tracking score at all.
    • After more play, it might be tracking—but it only ever shows the tens digit (e.g., it displays "1" when the score reaches 10, but shows nothing before that).
    • It's also possible it's only capturing a score very occasionally (coincidentally around 10), so I'm not sure if it's a display/decoding problem or a scoring logic problem.
Either way, I'm trying to get the score to update accurately after each point.

I am not sure where to start so any ideas would be helpful.

Damn I want this
We put all of our games up for sale after 90 days of allowing people to enjoy them at the small town arcade we run. It is always a bit of a risk especially with some of the harder to find machines like this one...but they were made to be played. So we want them to be played!

And then we want someone to buy it so we can find another one to get out there...but we also need to get it working properly first and this score issue is completely stumping me right now. It is definitely keeping track of the score...and I have confirmed it is showing the 1 when it gets to 10. Even gives the extra time when scoring 12 as the manual indicates.

That's awesome. Yeah I totally agree. Music was meant to be listened to, art was meant to be appreciated, videogames are meant to be enjoyed. Currently, I'm working towards making it so that I can host parties for those interested.

I'll keep an eye out for schematics, I've never yet seen a Robot in person, but I own an Allied Super Soccer and an Allied Paddle Battle.

Most of those TTL games have calculated 'windows' which determine what's muxed into the inputs of the 7-segment decoder and to enable the outputs to be drawn.

Chances are the 'window' for the 1s digits is bad -- but without schematics, it's hard to tell you where to look on the board.

Obviously the score positions are different from standard pong-type games, so those schematics could be a reasonable guideline, but won't be exact.
