Aliens Restoration Underway...WHY?!

Seems like a Dynamo would be a better cabinet choice...but that's just me. I'd have a hard time enjoying the game knowing I gussied up a bad-ass Defender!

+1

I have found dynamos with bad games for like $150. If you really like the game, I'd say put it in a kit cab like a dynamo.

I decided that the original bezel is too hard to find, too expensive and pretty boring, so I made my own. I created an image that I liked and had it done to size on Styrene .04. It's heavy duty and looks amazing! I am so happy with it. Plus, it only cost me $28!!!
Here are some quick pics.
I need to cut out the white and that will be where the monitor goes.
Once I get more work done, I will post more pics.

Awesome!! I did see that pic before. Your side art beside the monitor with the red and the alien is what made me think of doing a custom bezel. That and the fact that they are so hard to find, until you found one! LOL!
Do you still have that machine? Sounds like you sold it?

Yeah I took it to the Baltimore Auction and it sold for $30. That was the last time I brought a game to an auction....

Just for reference it's pretty well done, It's the art I had on the Aliens I restored about 5 years ago and side by side with the NOS art most wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Here is the game:

Weird coincidink...when I played this game new in the arcades, it was also in a Xenophobe cab with the kit artwork on it. At the time I thought that was the original cabinet and how Konami was so clever for designing it that way.

Winds up Midway knows more about designing a cab for Aliens than Konami.

I did a bit more work last night.
I put in a new light bar because the other was crap. I purchased new plexi glass for the Marquee and around the Bezel.
I also cut out the bezel and put it with the monitor. It looks so nice now! Actually, the bezel makes the Marquee look bad.

Next up will be the sides. I have to order the side art and get the cab ready.
I am also thinking about new plexi for the CP. Mine is cracked and it could use a clean one put down.

Cool man a defender conversion... nice... Mine is a tatio double dragon cab... the best thing about this cab is the PCB access drawer at the bottom of the cab in the front... so i can easliy switch out ALIENS for ALIENS VS PREDATOR. . .

i like the bezel real cooll... i had all custom stuff when i first started out, i just bought NOS artwork piece by peice when it was available..

my first aliens cab was a dynamo cab and looked like this:

Yeah Lucky, your new one is so sweet. I love the T molding and lighted buttons. I have considered doing the buttons for mine.
I never thought about doing AVP in there. That might be a great idea too. It would be cool to have BOTH boards in there and be able to easily switch back and forth between the two.
Yes it is a Defender cab. I didn't want that, but that is what it came in when I bought it. I gotta work on the sides next.

Why? I'll tell you. Because I can remember playing this back in 1990 at an arcade on the Board Walk in Maryland. I dropped $5.50 in the machine to beat it. It was awesome and I still love it. This is one of my most wanted games and I am happy to have it at home!

First off, you're bringing back a game Kudo's for that.
Second, if YOU like the game, then that's all that matters :D

I might have some artwork files if you need them. PM me your e-mail address.

I saw it in your arcade. I thought that was the 70's toy. I almost bought one a few years back. My buddy was an artist and had a Giger book. It was amazing. His art was just so well thought out. I too loved the movies and had a heart attack when I saw this game in an arcade at the boardwalk in Maryland. I played it for days while there on vacation. I always wish they released it on the console. It's great to have it in the house as part of the collection.
Dude, you should totally look into getting the life size one. I know they made it. Just like the Predator. It will cost you, but DAMN would it look good in your game room!

Not to derail, but Giger can be bad ass (although sometimes he lacks subtlety and editing, most of his stuff is great :p). Even though he didn't like or intend his Alien design to be used the way it was, it's one of the most frightening creature designs I've ever seen. Very, very intelligent design exploiting visual shapes and physical virtues we find psychologically frightening.

I still find it a trip that they made kids toys out of this thing. It's like creating an action figure marketed to kids out of Linda Blair from the Exorcist.
