Alien Syndrome 2.0 Restore

After attaching the base plexi to the control panel with lock nuts, I glue the smaller cut to fit pieces onto it from the front.

Would this be a logical assumption ??? This cabinet had an Aladdin's Castle badge ID tag nailed into it. My understanding is they usually purchased their games brand new from their distributor. I'm starting the coin door and the label read tokens only. Now it's quit possible that the game went to another games palace etc. But usually if it was sold to a operator they maybe would have changed that to 25 cent labels??? I guess my assumption based on this info and the fact that it was never converted, the only commercial use was at Aladdin's. Then maybe went to private or storage??? Gonna try to track down the seller for more info.

Finished up the marquee brackets and got new hardware for them. Buffed up the marquee but really didn't need it. No scratches or flaking which is surprising.

I use Eagle One Mag Wheel Cleaner. It really removes all rust. Sometimes I can just spray it and 5 minutes later it's clean. If the rust is deep then I will soak the item overnight in a Tupperware or like container. Also you may have to use a wire brush or file sander to help get through the layers. You will eventually end up with a 100% metal with no rust. Now it may be pitted and you will have to repair and fill in. But it gives you a nice starting point because rust is like cancer and works it's way back if you don't get it all. These pics are before doing any sanding or prep for painting.

Not sure how I got lucky but the mice only created a nest in the power inlet box. There was nothing on the bottom of the cabinet that didn't easily sand off so no real staining to speak of. Now if this doesn't show the power of this mag cleaner nothing will. As you can see heavy rusting from the mice urine. I soaked this in a tupperware with about an inch of the product. Every few hours I would rotate and soak another side. The bottom did require using a heavy grit nail file and working the rust off, then soaking it again and so forth. But after a day of this it's looking pretty good.

So now I hand sand and wheel brush the doors. Usually there's some pretty big dings where people try to pry the door open. I hammer them straight and then on a metal slab I work on each individually crease or dent making them as flat and smooth as possible. Then usually I can orbital sand them smooth. Once in awhile I use bondo to fill in stuff. Then I spray them with a few coats of automotive filler primer (black) . This is very forgiving and you can over spray areas that have small holes or scratches to fill in. Then sand down as needed. Then the metal gets polished using paper towels with a rough texture. It's almost like a finishing sandpaper. Then tac cloth and then I use gloss Krylon for appyling the splatter texture. Remember to never have the can over the metal as you are barely putting any pressure on the trigger, paint will collect in the neck of the can and dribble down as shown in the pic. I have ruined 2 doors like this having to strip and start over as you really can't hide it. And I've tried.

I believe (99%) that the original dedicated uprights did not have a graphic bezel, only the conversion kits had one. They had the Sun Corporation emblem at the top. What confused me was I had seen a few uprights with a graphic bezel but it had Alien Syndrome logo at the top so I use to think the dedicated ones had this bezel. But then I figured out that Fizgig had reproduced them and had removed the Sun Corporation and added the Alien Syndrome logo and thus other collectors had purchased the art from him. So after reaching out he hooked me up again with a great bezel. I had to attach it to card stock.

Cleaned up the inside and primed and painted the coin box. I did a soak in the mag cleaner to remove the light rust. I have my extra 16B boardset installed running until I get my 16A back from repairs. I didn't want to drill an extra hole for it so I used the existing one to hold it right now. Since it has never been converted it only had the original 4 holes but are positioned for the gigantic 16A boardset.
