Alberta Mata Hari

Haha, I'm not broken over the ordeal. Picked up the right stuff for future use.

Next question, how much wax is TOO much wax? I've got the first coat on. Maybe it's a bit thin, but it's on. I'm thinking it only took like 5-10 minutes to wax the first time, maybe I should do 2 or even 3 passes?

I'm doing circles in the tin to wax up my rag, and then i put enough wax on the playfield to make it hazy, but not overly "waxed". Then buff, buff, buff, buff till everything's shiney.

Edit: Oh yeah, I stripped the playfield right down. All that's left on it is the flippers and bottoms of the pop bumpers. Makes things a LOT easier this way. Got all the parts laid out on a coffee table, and I took more than enough pictures to know where things are going. :)

Productive Weekend?

This weekend I...
Playfield - Stripped, Cleaned, Waxed, Waxed again (touch-up, don't think multiple coats are necessary)
Bulbs, Bulbs, and more bulbs - (Playfield, Sub-Playfield, Backglass, Coin Door) Ordered 100, was short 5-10... When I order new bumper caps from Marco, I'll add 20 more...
Rectifier Work-over - fuses, fuse clips, J3 header and connector replacement, current mods from pinrepair, C1-C4 diode replacement (Yay, 220v instead of 150v!)
MPU Work-over - Battery holder mounted (with 1n5817 diode), grounding mod
Rubber kit - 18 pieces (rings, flippers, rebounder), got paranoid, put on latex gloves for this, to avoid black marks on the nice new rubber :p
Playfield - Re-assembled
Plunger - Cleaned, Replaced springs, replaced tip.
Power cable - Old cable didn't have proper grounding, replaced in favor of an IEC-C14.
Legs - Straightened, Acid Bath, Wire Wheel, Spray Primer, Hammered silver paint, new levelers, repainted bolts
NEW PINBALL!! :D
Coin Door - Cleaned, adjusted the coin switches (they got bent outwards?), replaced bulbs.

I told the girlfriend she wasn't allowed to play it until I got this far. Last night she had THE first game on it. Changed her whole perspective of my hobby :D:D:D I wanted her first game to be a fun one. The new rubber, ball, wax, and bulbs really payed off. When I played it, it was slow, noisy, the rubbers bumpers and slingshots did nothing useful.

Now it plays like a dream, the ball moves nearly silent, and it bounces all over the place. The pop bumpers really do POP, I mean they REALLY move the ball now. She lit up the 1000's, and got the ball blasting around them, the chimes were going ballistic. It was truly an awesome sight to see. Now I need to get some AA's in there to save our scores!

And here's my remaining to-do list...
Playfield Solenoid Fuse - When I was picking up fuse clips, I bought split style clips (one on each end), for the PF fuse I need a one-piece clip
Replace Bumper caps - "100's" have some melting
Bulb Holders - 3 pop bumpers, 2 sub-playfield won't light up, 2 sub-playfield bulbs very dim
Close Front Edge Gap (Wood Glue and Clamps?)
Repaint/Touch-up Artwork all around cabinet (this is gonna be a weekend project, I'm sure)

And of course, a huge thanks to Lindsey and Burt6666. Even ended up calling Burt a few times through this ordeal for some pointers.

Edit: Tonight I'm gonna repair those bulbs the best I can, and then take a metric fu**-tonne of pictures of the whole result. :D

Oh nice! IEC-C13/14! Now we've got a standardized cable, that can be detached!

And the battery holder

Coin door all cleaned up...
Might need to replace these inserts... one's scratched, the other is slightly melted.

Skirting... not sure why it looks yellow in these pictures. In reality it's pretty green.

And working my way up the playfield. It's in awesome shape minues some black fading around the inserts, and some wear on the left flipper. Looks like a rebuild's been done since, as the flipper no longer drags.
