Just got an Airborne pinball machine by Capcom the other day. Has probably 50 plays since i bought it. Everry time I turned it on and off there would be a popping sound and a horizontal line that forms or disappears as the display turns on or off. Today I turned on the game and it made the popping sound, but the display did not turn on and a burning smell came from the backbox. I am unsure what the problem could be. In fact, I don't recall even hearing the game playing blindly. Granted, I didn't play the game since I turned it off when I smelled the burning smell. I took a bunch of pics of the boards and uploaded them here:

Can anyone help? I am green to pinball DMD's so any details, no matter how elementary, will greatly help.

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't look too bad, but it does look like you will be replacing some components on that display power board. Don't think of it as a DMD problem for now, think of it as a power supply problem! :)

I'm sure someone that knows WAY more than I do about these things will chime in, but at the bottom of the page here you can find the values of the components you will need to at least get the board back to it's original shape. Also, here is the pinrepair page on Capcom, I'm surprised it's still there actually. I'm not sure what caused the failure, so be careful and check voltages before hooking the DMD up again (and check the rest of your voltages while you are in there!)

Most likely it's the display controller board and not the actual display. Usually the high voltage section goes out.

WTB Display Controller Board for Capcom Airborne

Looking for a quick fix. Anyone have one of these? Thanks!

Found Damaged Board Components

Finally had the time to open up the game last night and take a few pics. You were right, the display board itself has some busted components to the right of the transformer, I believe. Looks like they actually snapped and caught fire. My question is now...if I buy these diodes, etc and resolder them in will this make the fix or is something else with the board making these blow and sending out the board would be the best idea? Check out the pics!

Game does turn on and seems play blindly as there is sound in the background; however, I turned it off after I saw a spark on the transformer and the melted diodes.

Thanks.
