How many of you guys have Air Hockey tables in your gameroom? My kids want one and I would love to surprise them for Xmas. I am not sure if I want to go semi cheap or try to find a bigger Dynamo sized table or not.

My opinion on this would be that if you personally want a fast playing air hockey table I would go for a Dynamo or at least a more expensive one for home use.

If it is for your kids only/mostly you can get a bigger sized table that's fast enough but not arcade fast for relatively much cheaper. We have a pretty big table with metal sides and electronic scoring at our house that we got at Costco. It's fun and younger kids that come over love it but I always wished it played faster.

I have a full sized one and hands down... that table gets more use than anything else in the gameroom.

I have a Dynamo that I picked up off Craigslist. The only issues I have is the thing is a beast to move and probably weighs 550 lbs. It also takes up a lot of floor space. Mine is currently inaccessible and shoved in the corner because of how much space it takes, and I only set up it for social gatherings.

I bought one at Costco about 4 years ago made by Rhino and it was pretty cheap, $400 I think. I wasn't expecting too much, but it was a pretty nice table once I bought Dynamo pucks and mallets. It played very similar in speed to a Dynamo, but the rails didn't give much of a rebound.

I bought a Dynamo a few months ago cause I found a great deal on craigslist and I do like it a lot more. If a Dynamo is in your budget go for it, but some of the home tables are a very good compromise.

I've had two tables in my life and the long term gameroom plan is to have one featured in the middle of the gameroom. For now I just don't want to give up the room, as someone said earlier they are space eaters but not as much as a pool table.

Agreed .. these things take up tons of room. However seeing as how it gets played by the kids + their friends non-stop... for me it's a good use of space.
:)

Now that they're getting older and being familiar with games on the PS2/Wii etc... its hard to get them motivated to play a game of DK or Pacman.

I picked up a cheap one, almost full size a while back because I personally love to play, but didn't want to spend a bunch if no-one else did. Needless to say it gets the crap played out of it. So when I get ready to replace it I will definitely go with a Dynamo or as close as possible. The problem with the cheaper ones is durability... legs coming loose, edge laminate popping off, playfield warping, etc.
So I say if you're going to get one.... get as much of one as you can afford, both space and cost.(i.e. Dynamo)

Check on craigslist for one. I found the top of the line Rhino for $85. Full scoreboard, aluminum rails, full size. Some guy with a house way too big for anyone had a wife that didn't want it. Best way to buy stuff is when the wife wants rid of it.

However I didn't play it much. The first few parties I had everyone played but then it got old fast. I replaced it with a pool table and everyone plays that.

Craigslist is the way to go! Check out wildjohn.com for a cool way to surf craigslist by picture!

Thanks for the info everyone. My kids (especially my daughter) loves Air Hockey and they were hinting that they would like to have one for Xmas. I was thinking about surprising them with one.

I found a nice one about 4 months ago, a huge Dynamo. It was HUGE. I offered $500 but that wasn't enough.
