I am discharging my monitor out of my 4 slot MVS and while gently putting my discharge tool under the suction cup all of a sudden air or something is coming out of the monitor.... lasted about 20 seconds... discharged a few monitors now and never had this problem...

What is this?
Am I in trouble?

Honestly couldnt tell.. I got the hell out of the garage for a few minutes after that just in case.. LOL.. I guess it very easily could have been air going in.. I think I broke a little metal clip on the flyback.. i was gentle and not sure how this happened.. ugh...

So I guess you heard the sound of air flowing, and did not feel air blowing on you?

CRTs have no air in them. They draw a vacuum during the manufacturing process. Sounds like you broke the glass, and air leaked into the tube. If that's in fact what happened, the tube is ruined.

Thats what came to my mind when he heard "air". Sounds like you broke your vacuum tube and the sound you heard was air rushing into the monitor.

Your CRT or picture tube is done. Once the vacuum is broken and air gets into it, its shot.

Now you need another tube. If it makes you feel any better, this is the first time I have heard of the glass breaking at the anode connection point. Usually people break them at the nipple or crack the neck.

That's an expensive sound that you heard.

Well.. your all correct.. tube is done for and its cracked.. very strange as I just placed the flat head screwdriver in there slowly.. heard the pop from it discharging and then when I pulled the screwdriver away somehow I cracked it and air was going in the tube. Good news is I have another good 25" monitor laying around so I put that one in and I am all good now. Lesson learned that I will be even MORE carefull when discharging monitors (if thats possible).

And the reason I ran out of my garage when this happened is because a few months back a capacitor decided to blow up in my face like a firecracker... so now when shit happens right by me I am a little more cautious! LOL

So, you cracked the tube and broke the metal anode clip.........all while being gentle. I'd hate to see what you'd do if you went rough;)

Seriously, a lot of us have broken (at least) one....hopefully, this will be your one and only.

yeah thats a first, Ive necked about 4 monitors now, first one was rotating a candy 29" and forgot to remove the metal plate at the back of cab, and snapped the neck as rotating :(

rest are all accidents where parts fell off shelves and landed on monitors breaking necks :(

Im more careful now.......
